Fujitsu Announces Record Mobile & Enterprise Hard Disk Drive Shipments
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, today announced a significant increase in its hard disk drive market presence in the fourth calendar quarter of 2004.
Fujitsu increased its mobile hard disk drive volume to become the second largest supplier of 2.5" mobile drives with a production of 4.166M units, a 27% increase over the previous quarter (CY 3Q04) and a dramatic 88% increase compared to the same quarter last year. In the enterprise hard disk drive market, Fujitsu increased shipments to 1.364M units, a 13% increase compared to the same quarter last year.
"Fujitsu has enjoyed significant shipment growth due to our unfaltering dedication to provide the best quality, most reliable hard disk drives," said Joel Hagberg, vice president, Marketing and Business Development, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "Fujitsu's quality leadership position translates into a tangible return on total cost of ownership for our customers."
This is the tenth consecutive quarter that Fujitsu has enjoyed growth in its mobile hard disk drive sales. The dramatic fourth quarter improvement was fueled by improved manufacturing execution, increased attention on fostering close OEM relationships and a continued commitment to industry leading quality. Through those efforts Fujitsu was able to expand its mobile hard disk drives sales into all top Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's). This quarter's unit shipments cemented Fujitsu firmly as the number two 2.5" mobile hard disk drive provider with 25.6% overall market share.
"The hard disk drive market has been very competitive the past several years with industry leaders showing a dedication to research and development," said Dave Reinsel, director of storage research at IDC. "Some of Fujitsu's success in growing its market share in both the mobile and enterprise sectors can be attributed to its successful execution on next-generation products while maintaining focus on established disk drive platforms."
In the enterprise market, Fujitsu was able to increase it sales due to industry leading quality and technology leadership. In 2004 the company delivered several next generation enterprise drives to server OEMs, maintaining its place as one of the market's top enterprise hard disk drive providers.
Fujitsu continues to lead the Small Form Factor (SFF) serial interface technology offering the industry's only 2.5" Serial-ATA (SATA) product, which is being integrated into new storage and consumer applications. Fujitsu also continues to work with key OEMs to integrate SFF Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drives into enterprise storage applications.
