In 2005, WestHost donated a portion of it's revenue to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief and Disaster Relief Funds to help in hurricane and tsunami relief. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those that have been affected by the hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunami, and other natural disasters this year. We're thankful for all organizations that assisted in relief efforts.

The globe learned on December 26, 2004, that tsunamis can bring death and devastation to the world's coastlines. The product of undersea earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, tsunamis can race across oceans at more than 500 miles an hour, leaving a huge wake of destruction when they hit shore. Because it is difficult for scientists to predict how large these massive waves can be, tsunamis are one of the least understood of nature's forces, and one of the most dangerous. With insight from some of the scientific community's foremost researchers, and vivid accounts from past tsunami survivors, Killer Wave depicts nature at its most extreme, profiles the efforts being made to curb its effects, and illustrates the financial, physical and emotional toll it can leave on its victims.

The donation will be focused on immediate humanitarian relief efforts to assist local victims of the disaster. Cisco is working in concert with nongovernmental associations including the Red Cross and government agencies to determine the best allocations for the donations. Funds will also support rebuilding efforts including the potential of enhancing early warning systems for seismic activity in the region.

"Computer industry analysts estimate that some 60 percent of all corporate data exists only on desktop and laptop computers, " said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. "Incorporating Acronis True Image with New Mexico Software backup server is the ideal solution to capture that corporate data and ensure that it is not lost. While traditional server backups are effective for protecting server data, every company should have a combination of server and workstation backup plans."

"On behalf of the employees of Cisco, I'd like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to all of those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Asia and Africa," said John Chambers, Cisco president and CEO. "Giving back is a key element of our corporate culture. We are a global company with a strong presence in Asia, and we see it as our responsibility to help the local communities where we have employees, customers and partners rebuild after this tragedy." monitor

In addition to the donation, Cisco is working with the NetHope consortium, an organization incubated by Cisco and includes other companies and nongovernmental associations, to make NetRelief Kits available to its member organizations for immediate deployment to the stricken areas. These kits will provide an easy to set up and operate communications hub for disaster management where normal communications infrastructure is absent or destroyed and are augmented by NetHope with mobile satellite communications capability from Inmarsat. NetHope is in the process assessing data to identify locations throughout the region for deployment of these kits. infosys
