Small Tree announces ethernet solution for Apple Xserv G5

By WTN News • 11/30/05 Chippewa Valley, Wis. Small Tree Communications, a provider of high-end networking solutions for the Mac platform, announced its 10Gb Ethernet solution for Apples Xserve G5.

Using its optimized drivers and the features of Mac OS X Server 10.4 Tiger, the company claims a 60% performance improvement for its 10GbE solution.

In addition to proprietary networking drivers, Small Trees solution utilizes CX-4, a copper interconnect standard for 10Gb class signal in high-performance computing clusters and for short distances within wiring closets. A 10GbE CX-4 card, switch and support software are available through Small Tree Communications for $2,400 per port.

High intranet bandwidth is especially important in fields such as video postproduction and graphic design, where heavy loads of digital content are brought back and forth between servers and workstations.
