Symmetricom Achieves TL 9000 Certification
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 7, 2004--Symmetricom Inc. (Nasdaq:SYMM), a leading supplier of network synchronization and timing solutions for the global telecommunications industry, announced today that it has been awarded the stringent TL 9000 certification for its San Jose and Puerto Rico facilities.
TL 9000 was created by the QuEST (Quality Excellence for Suppliers of Telecommunications) Forum. The standard contains all the requirements from ISO 9001:2000 plus additional requirements designed specifically for the telecommunications industry. The intent of TL 9000 is to apply a consistent set of quality system requirements and metrics that will help provide telecommunications users with faster, better and more cost-effective services.
"TL 9000 certification is a demanding process and not every organization is able to meet the requirements," said Tom Steipp, president and CEO of Symmetricom. "A key benefit of TL 9000 certification is the implementation of the 'Shared Expectations Teams,' a process in which a single organization works jointly with a customer to create an understanding of each other's expectations in order to continually improve quality. As such, the TL 9000 certification process is a critical competitive component in our major accounts."
The purpose of TL 9000 is to define a set of quality system requirements for the telecommunications industry based on ISO 9001, which incorporates cost-based metrics that measure reliability and quality performance of the products and services. This particular certification is for the design, development, production and servicing of specialized telecommunications equipment for network synchronization, monitoring and broadband access communications products (Category Code 5.1 and 7.1). Additional information regarding the QuEST forum and TL 9000 can be found at http://questforum.asq.org.
