Laptop Computer The man did not have a history of blood transfusion, organ transplantation or travel, the department said. He did have a history of being bitten by mosquitoes around his home.
The man, Peter Schmid of West Babylon, was bitten by a swarm of mosquitoes, according to his son, Christopher, who said he told this to a neurologist at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip on Aug. 22. Doctors discounted the possibility that the elder man had the disease, his son said. He said the test results confirming that his father had West Nile did not come back until three days before he died. By that time, his father had already lapsed into a coma.
