AMP Launches PressONE Hosted IP Telephony Services in the New York Metro Area Using VocalData Application Server

New service allows AMP Networks to offer customers savings on operations, equipment while also reducing operational costs for AMP

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2004--

VocalData, Inc., an application developer of hosted IP telephony solutions, today announced that AMP Networks, an integrated communication provider (ICP), is using VocalData's application server to support its PressONE.net hosted iPBX service.
Available commercially in the metropolitan New York area, PressONE.net is a feature-rich hosted communications service that provides an affordable, advanced option to replace on-premise phone systems such as PBXs or IP PBXs.

VocalData's application server is integral to AMP's next-generation business solution, giving the more than 20 million people in the AMP coverage area access to advanced telephony applications that include remote office support, virtual private networking (VPN), centralized voicemail, advanced conferencing features and unified messaging.

"AMP Telephone Systems, Inc., has evolved over the last 25 years from a basic interconnect into an advanced communications integrator by continuing to offer its customers the latest in technology and services to meet and exceed their evolving communications and computing needs," said Allan Schwartz, vice president of operations of AMP. "After evaluating several vendors, we selected VocalData as our next-generation telecom partner for many reasons, including the fact that VocalData came highly recommended from its current customers. Furthermore, the ease with which customers and users are added, changed or modified is unprecedented. We were also pleased with the flexibility of the VocalData application server, which allows us to continue to evolve our hosted IP telephony service to meet our customers' future needs."

PressONE.net, AMP's hosted service - which does not require customer premise equipment to be installed - allows AMP to remotely upgrade equipment and manage customers, instead of traveling all over its service area to do so. This in turn, has led AMP to maintain better control over its internal associated operational costs, as its own operation has been greatly streamlined.

For the end user, the hosted service provides unprecedented flexibility, by giving them a phone system that will function across any Internet connection anywhere in the world. For instance, one AMP customer currently uses the service to connect its U.S. offices with its technical support staff in Romania, allowing the two offices to function as if they were in the same building rather than halfway across the world. Another company, a provider of in-home nursing care in New York, New Jersey and Florida, can now service all three offices with a single back office, thus saving on personnel and related costs.

In addition, all AMP IP Centrex customers can complete their own moves, adds and changes, and can rely on one IP connection, or redundant IP connections, to support both voice and data, thus giving them greater flexibility and saving them money. The redundancy, reliability and lower cost of multiple IP connections is unparalleled in the separate TDM and Internet worlds. Overall, AMP's VoIP business customers can lower their total cost of ownership 20 to 40 percent when compared to a traditional PBX by eliminating the need for multiple vendors, separate networks for voice and data, and labor for moves/adds/changes, not to mention lowering their initial capital expenditures.

In the few months since launching the PressONE.net service, AMP has already signed on more than 350 users, exceeding their own conservative internal expectations. "The trend we are seeing in the marketplace is tremendously driven toward harnessing the flexibility and power of IP-based communications," said Peter Schwartz, President of AMP Telephone Systems. "As we revise our targets toward 1,000 users by the end of the year, we are confident that the VocalData platform will be a driving force in establishing the continuity of our business for the next 25 years."

"Offering hosted IP telephony services is a perfect fit for companies like AMP, which are trusted by their business customers to provide advanced services designed to increase business productivity and save them money," said Mark Whittier, vice president, VocalData. "We are honored to become part of AMP's 25-year commitment to offering top-quality communications and computing services to its customers."
