Laptop Battery A pond, a patch of grass, a cluster of ducks. Lisanne Casalinuovo has incurred the ire of residents near Absecon's Heritage Park - and of City Administrator Terry Dolan - by feeding the waterfowl that inhabit the pond.

Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Laptop Computers But if Casalinuovo doesn't feed them, she says, the ducks will die. At least, some will. The pond at Heritage Park is home to hundreds of wild mallards and a smaller number of domestic ducks that have been released there. It's the domestics that won't survive without human help, she says.

Laptop Computer Domestic ducks and geese lack survival skills. They were bred for eating. Like chickens, they're too fat and their wings are too small to fly more than a few yards at a time. If the food source disappears at Heritage Park, the mallards can fly away. The domestic Muscovies, Pekins and others are stuck there.

Desktop Computer The situation is not unique to Absecon. Abandoned domestic ducks and geese abound in the lakes at Smithville and other area parks. At Smithville, though, the birds get tender care from people such as Laura Andriola, who runs Birder's Company Store and often applies ointment to injured webbed feet.
Notebooks In Absecon, the ducks' only care comes from people such as Casalinuovo, who often waits until the evening to come here, because neighbors yell at her.
Lenovo The pond here is a former gravel pit fed by an underground stream. The only vegetation appears to be grass. These are harsh conditions.
Hard Drive The term "feral duck," which might call to mind something vicious and rabid, foaming at the beak, doesn't do the hapless domestics justice.
Travelstar The differences between wild mallards and domestics became clear on a recent Thursday, a few minutes after Casalinuovo began feeding them.
Gateway The mallards were sleek, small and energetic. They were not dignified - ducks are never dignified - but they waddled with purpose. The domestic breeds were blocky and slow.
Laptop Parts Soon a hawk flew overhead. The mallards instinctively reacted. With the whirring of many wings, they fled to the safety of the pond.
Software The white-feathered domestic breeds stayed where they were, oblivious to the potential danger. They looked like prep-school students wandering the dangerous recesses of a heartless city, ready to ask a mugger for directions.
Hard Drives Casalinuovo looked up at the hawk and muttered, "Jerk."
Electronics Which gets to the heart of the human side of the duck dilemma. Casalinuovo dislikes anything, human or avian, that would wish ill on a duck. Dolan, the city administrator, wants the ducks gone.

Desktop Pc It isn't just Absecon residents who say the domestic ducks are in trouble.
Desktop Computers Candy Kooyman, "the Duck Lady" of Galloway Township, has spent 11 years as a duck and goose rehabilitator. Her property includes hundreds of birds that were injured or homeless.
Think Pad Kooyman said domestic waterfowl are more likely than wild birds to suffer injuries or infections, or to starve, without constant human help.
Repair In years past, duck-feeding was encouraged in Absecon.
Data Recovery But residents complained that people fed the ducks bread and other unhealthy foods - and that the aggressive birds were wandering onto lawns and leaving a mess.
Cisco Officials and residents had a vague idea there must be a state law against feeding waterfowl.
Keyboard About two years ago, the city removed the park's "duck feeding area" signs and installed "Please don't feed the wildlife" signs.
Monitor Lillian Pepernik, another duck lover, came to Dolan's office in January. She said the ducks needed help.
Desktop Dolan told her that the death of the domestics and flight of the mallards would solve the city's duck problem once and for all. He told her, "Please don't feed the ducks."
Infosys The meeting ended with Pepernik more determined than ever to help the ducks and Dolan inspired to get rid of them. He called an animal control company.
Refurbished Laptops The company offered to addle the ducks' eggs - to shake them, destroying the embryos inside.
Wipro Dolan said he'd think about it.

Refurbished Not every city employee feels the way Dolan does.
Memory Someone recently called to say "there was a duckling caught in the sewer; could you come save it?" Dolan recalled.
Intel City workers came to the rescue. "And I keep on going, 'Why are you doing that? Let's not do that.' And they say, 'Oh, don't be hard-hearted,'" Dolan said.
As400 "My worst duck story is this: Some baby ducks fell down a drain on (a nearby street). Someone called the fire department. And they came," Dolan said, still in disbelief. "With multiple fire trucks. And they actually had the fire chief, Stan Colby, in the drain, chasing the ducks."
Averatec Dolan would have been happy to let the ducks stay in the drain and never come back.
Hardware "(Colby's) response to me was, 'You'd be surprised how fast they can move,' " said Dolan, in a tone that suggested Colby was clearly missing the point.

Storage State law doesn't make things any clearer. It's a little on Dolan's side, and a little on the duck lovers'.
Seagate The law says that when a feral domestic duck starts living in a park, it belongs to the park's owner.
Computer Sales The owner can catch or kill the ducks or damage their eggs in ways allowed by the Department of Environmental Protection.
Computer Hardware On the other hand, the owner can't do anything to harm mallards or other wild waterfowl on the same property. That would make egg-addling, which Dolan was considering, complicated.
Printers And there are no state or federal laws that prohibit anyone from feeding the Absecon ducks.
Technology "I need to think about this," Dolan said when he learned about the law. "So these ducks become my property because I own the land. OK. So now I have a person (Pepernik) who wants to come on my property and somehow do something to property that I own. Unfortunately my property is public property so I can't charge her with trespassing."
Mainframe At their meeting, Pepernik asked Dolan what he would do if she fed the ducks.
Samsung "I told her that, 'I'm just going to be upset if you do it.' All I can do is be upset. And I am," he said.
Computer Repair One solution, ironically, would please both sides.
Used Computers Pepernik is trying to find someone who will give the ducks a new home.
Network So is Dolan.
Digital Cameras "As I sit here and look out my window, there is a huge flock of Canadian geese that just arrived here. I hope they won't stay long," he said.
