Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 Fuels Traffic To Movie Web
Sites, According To Nielsen//Netratings
NEW YORK, CA July 2, 2004 Nielsen//NetRatings, the global standard
for Internet audience measurement and analysis, reports today that
traffic from home to movie sites surged eight percent during the
week ending June 27, as surfers logged online to view movie times
and to buy
tickets for Fahrenheit
9/11.
The movie category attracted nearly 11 million unique visitors, up
from 10.2 million visitors during the week prior. Traffic to
Movies.com jumped 58 percent to 613,000 visitors, grabbing the top
spot as the fastest movie site (see Table 1). Moviefones online
traffic increased to 1.6 million surfers, surging 54 percent
week-over-week. Sony Pictures Movies and Yahoo! Movies saw traffic
increases of 43 percent and 20 percent respectively, while Rotten
Tomatoes drew 280,000 unique visitors to its site during the week
ending June 27, although it did not make the Nielsen//NetRatings
cut off during the prior week. Fahrenheit 9/11s impact stretched
beyond movie sites as traffic to MSN Slate skyrocketed 205 percent
during the week ending June 27, leading the way as the fastest
growing site at home. The site attracted 954,000 unique visitors
with more than one third of the sites audience viewing an editorial
on Michael Moores Fahrenheit 9/11. MSN Slate also spiked 116
percent at work with 54 percent of the nearly 1.7 million office
workers viewing the same article.
Laptop Battery Movie blockbusters such as Fahrenheit 9/11 continue to draw fans
online for tickets, movie trailers, commentary and interactive
content, said Kaizad Gotla,
Internet analyst, Nielsen//NetRatings. The summer movie season
is Hollywoods primetime, so we can expect to see higher traffic
and more buzz online, especially during key holiday weekends
such as July 4th.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
