Adobe's Melissa Dyrdahl Named Best Marketing Executive by the 2004 American Business Awards
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 2004--Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced that Melissa Dyrdahl, senior vice president of corporate marketing and communications, was awarded a Stevie(TM) Award for Best Marketing Executive from the 2004 American Business Awards. The award was presented earlier this week in New York. Hailed as "the business world's own Oscars" by the New York Post (September 22, 2002), the American Business Awards are the first national, all encompassing business awards program honoring great performance in the workplace.
Dyrdahl, who has worked for Adobe for almost ten years, garnered the award for her work in helping transform Adobe's legendary software brand. Dyrdahl's marketing organization has refreshed Adobe's connection to its traditional creative professional audience through advertising and redesigned product packaging while successfully pushing Adobe into the new territory of consumers and corporate enterprises. Of particular note was the work done by Dyrdahl and her team to define Adobe's brand for the enterprise and government audience, a rapidly growing segment of Adobe's business, through marketing the Intelligent Document Platform solutions.
Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word "crowned," the awards were presented during ceremonies at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers in New York City. The ceremonies were hosted by CNNfn personalities Rhonda Schaffler and Ali Velshi, videocast live on the Internet and broadcast nationwide on radio.
Finalists for the award included marketing executives from companies such as Nextel Communications, SAS and others. In accepting the Stevie, Dyrdahl said, "Adobe has always stood for the highest fidelity communications, and evolving that value message for new markets has been very exciting. This award represents the work of a large team of people who have helped both re-position and introduce Adobe Systems to crucial customer groups."
More than 100 Stevies were presented in more than 40 categories including best overall company, best executive, best new product or service and best corporate Web site. Some 800 nominations from companies of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration.
The board of judges for the award included business luminaries such as Rich Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes; Bruce Nelson, chairman & CEO of Office Depot; marketing gurus Don Peppers and Martha Rogers, author and business guru Tom Peters; Anthony Robbins, Chairman & CEO of The Anthony Robbins Companies; Drew Schutte, publisher of Wired Magazine; Jeffrey Tarr, president of Hoover's Inc.; and Donald Trump, chairman, president and CEO of The Trump Organization.
