Tonic Software Delivers Industry's First .NET Transaction Tracing Technology

WebLens for .NET Framework Now Generally Available

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2004--Tonic(TM) Software Inc., an innovator of Web application management software for companies that rely on the Internet to conduct business, today announced general availability of transaction tracing technology for .NET Web applications. WebLens(TM) for the Microsoft .NET Framework (WL.NET) is the industry's first enterprise-class transaction tracing software for .NET environments.
WL.NET enables customers to quickly find and fix application performance problems within and across their Web application infrastructures, greatly reducing the impact such problems have on the Web user and on company revenues. Along with Tonic's WebLens for J2EE, WL.NET enables companies to trace transactions across both Service Orientated Architectures using a single product family.

"We're seeing a strong growth in the number of customers that are actively deploying .NET Web applications," said Don Pate, CEO for Tonic Software. "It's also clear that most enterprises are employing some combination of both .NET and J2EE application environments. Therefore, we made it a top priority to deliver superior management solutions that improve the reliability and performance of Web environments based on either platform."

One of the first customers of WebLens for the Microsoft .NET Framework is Microsoft Certified Gold Partner, Catapult Systems, a technology consulting company headquartered in Austin, Texas, that specializes in e-business solutions.

"WebLens for the Microsoft .NET Framework quickly and accurately traces .NET transactions as they cross multiple servers, clusters and Web service calls, a unique and invaluable capability only offered by Tonic Software," said David Jacobson, CTO for Catapult Systems. "Since implementing the software, we've seen an 80 percent decrease in the number of performance bottlenecks in a number of critical components. We've also saved months of staff hours we would have spent identifying and fixing problems that otherwise would have been costly."

Key Features

With WebLens for the Microsoft .NET Framework, enterprises can, for the first time, quickly identify, resolve and prevent problems affecting .NET Web applications operating in an enterprise-class production environment. Key features include:

-- User perspective management: monitors and manages .NET application environments from the Web-user's perspective, helping to ensure that e-business transactions are optimized.

-- "On Demand" functionality: remains dormant until needed, at which time it can be activated manually or by using automated "triggers" from Tonic's end-user monitoring product, WebCommand. This allows IT staff to trace any application at any time without the performance overhead of traditional solutions.

-- Transaction visibility: traces transactions from any point they enter a .NET application, be that an ASP.NET page through to an ADO.NET data query. This flexibility minimizes the risk of operations staff being flooded with too much data.

-- Method analysis: traces each transaction down to the individual method, allowing for rapid identification and resolution of performance bottlenecks.

-- Low overhead: introduces no measurable overhead while dormant. Designed for production environments, WL.NET has minimal performance impact on production applications due to its ability to trace a single transaction on an as-needed basis.

-- Cross-boundary tracing: traces transactions across logical boundaries of a clustered implementation as well as physical boundaries of distributed applications. This enables deployment of WL.NET into an existing infrastructure without compromising its scalability or availability.

-- Quick implementation: requires no changes to source code and works with any application that uses the .NET framework, including Microsoft's Sharepoint(TM) application.
