Mindspeed Completes Backplane Interoperability Testing with Altera's Stratix GX FPGAs
Two Companies to Provide 'Off-the-Shelf Plug and Play' Backplane Solutions
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 2004--Mindspeed(TM) Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that is has successfully completed backplane interoperability testing of its family of crosspoint switches and clock-and-data-recovery circuits (CDRs) with Altera's Stratix(TM) GX family of field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
The interoperability of Mindspeed's backplane solutions and Altera's FPGAs will provide customers with ease-of-use, lower costs, and design flexibility in a wide variety of networking equipment including wireless, enterprise, and traditional telecom applications.
"We are pleased to have achieved interoperability with our Stratix GX family of FPGAs and Mindspeed's family of crosspoint switches," said David Greenfield, senior product marking director at Altera. "The combination of our devices will provide customers 'plug and play' solutions to transport data over copper cables, optics, or low cost board materials."
"Demonstrating CDR interoperability over 60 inches of FR-4 backplane trace is an impressive milestone and further enriches our customers' selection of robust high-speed backplane solutions," said Babak Nabili, director of marketing for Mindspeed.
Mindspeed offers a complete family of crosspoint switches across the full range of 2x2, 4x4, 17x17, 34x34, 68x68, 72x72 and 144x144 configurations, spanning data rates up to 5 Gbps. The family delivers a broad array of advanced signal-conditioning and power-management capabilities, and also includes the industry's most highly integrated devices with fully integrated CDR. Moreover, Mindspeed offers the lowest power multi-rate quad and octal CDRs operational from 42 Mbps to 3.2 Gbps.
The Stratix GX family of devices is Altera's second FPGA family to combine high-speed serial transceivers with a scalable, high-performance logic array. Stratix GX devices include 4 to 20 high-speed transceiver channels, each incorporating CDR technology and embedded SERDES capability at data rates of up to 3.125 Gbps. These transceivers are designed for low power consumption and small die size. The Stratix GX FPGA technology is built upon the Stratix architecture, and offers a 1.5-V logic array with unmatched performance, flexibility, and time-to-market capabilities. This scalable, high performance architecture makes Stratix GX devices ideal for high-speed backplane interface, chip-to-chip, and communications protocol-bridging applications.
