WatchGuard LiveSecurity Informer Broadcast Service Provides SMEs with Practical Security Advice and Timely Alerts

Launches Stand-Alone Subscription Service with 30-Day Free Trial

Laptop Battery SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 2004-- WatchGuard Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:WGRD), today announced LiveSecurity Informer, an email broadcast service designed to help those responsible for network security in small and medium-sized enterprises keep abreast of emerging security threats, issues and trends. LiveSecurity Informer is based on the broadcast component of the company's well-established LiveSecurity Service, which was previously available only to WatchGuard customers through a renewable subscription bundled with every WatchGuard appliance.
The LiveSecurity team at WatchGuard has been publishing content since 1999 that is geared primarily toward supporting organizations with limited resources or expertise dedicated to network security. Subscribers to LiveSecurity Informer will have access to the LiveSecurity archives and receive regular broadcasts via email alerting them to vulnerabilities and offering practical advice on how to prioritize threats and secure against the latest worms and viruses. The service also will deliver informative 'how-to' articles and expert guidance on topics ranging from security basics to more complex network administration. Recent editorials from the LiveSecurity team include: 'How to Evaluate a Security Threat' and 'Public WiFi Hazards.'

Whether you want to secure your laptop, digital camera, computer case, or any device with a security slot, 1 Cable Locking System provides the protection you need.

Thinkpad "The LiveSecurity alerts are extremely useful. They're clear, comprehensive, and, above all, short. I don't have time to read through reams of detail -- I just want the facts in an easily understandable format," says Gary Stein, network manager, Linens 'n Things, a WatchGuard customer. "I subscribe to several news feeds and WatchGuard's LiveSecurity is easily one of the best."

Microsoft "Despite the constant threat of viruses and worms, our research indicates that most of those responsible for network security in small and medium-sized businesses are chronically busy and often do not receive regular security training," said John Stuckey, vice president of marketing for WatchGuard. "But they know that being armed with the right knowledge at the right time is often crucial in stopping an attack. Our goal with LiveSecurity Informer is to do for a wider audience what we've done for our own WatchGuard customers for several years now: do the legwork for them and deliver just what they need to know when they need to know it."

What is a Network Interface Card (NIC) The most important PC device is the network interface card (NIC). Each computer on the network, including the servers, is required to have one installed. It is the NIC that provides connectivity between the PC and the network's physical medium, optic cable. Most of the new motherboards available today for PCs and servers have the network interface card integrated with the motherboard. Older computers and some newer computers do not provide onboard network interfaces which will equire a NIC to be added.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

When a war fighter encounters a system problem, he can use the laptop within the communica…tions box to launch a web browser that connects instantly via satellite to the Telemaintenance group's secure server in the U.S. On the server is Adobe Acrobat Connect Professional software, which launches automatically for the war fighter. Through Adobe Acrobat Connect, soldiers can create meetings and invite the SMEs needed to resolve their problems. The versatile web conferencing application enables soldiers to share their computer screens, so SMEs can view screens and relevant documents in real time. Cameras can also be used so SMEs can view field equipment in question. In both cases, SMEs see the exact same thing that war fighters would previously have had to try to describe by phone.
