Nintendo Taking Play-Yan Orders
Laptop Battery Nintendo of Japan has begun to take orders for its upcoming Play-Yan media device for the GBA SP and Nintendo DS. The Play-Yan is only available in Japan, and will only be sold online through Nintendo of Japans website. The cost is 5,000 yen (about 50 dollars), or 6,000 yen (about 60 dollars) bundled with MediaStage software. MediaStage is a Panasonic Windows XP application that allows users to encode movies for the Play-Yan, manage files, and play files on a PC. Files for the Play-Yan are stored on a Secure Digital (SD) card.
It is important to note that the Play-Yan does not work with the standard Game Boy Advance. Only the GBA SP is compatible with the Play-Yan. In addition, the Play-Yan does not support still image files or stereo playback for movies. Music files will play in stereo on the DS or with headphones on the GBA.
