Princeton Approves Bow Hunt Of Deer

Laptop Battery The township committee last night voted 4-1 to legalize bow hunting of deer on several public properties here.

Mr. Cornella clearly doesnt like hunting, and paints the worst possible picture of hunters. Dont believe it, because its not true, and statistics prove it (see www.njsfsc.org for more stats). And of course, he doesnt have a better solution for control of deer and bear populations. If he feels so threatened by hunters, perhaps he should live where hunting isnt necessary or allowed. How about someplace like Princeton, auto collisions are common, and taxpayers pay contractors over $300 per head to cull the deer population.

Thinkpad About two dozen people opposed to bow hunting attended the hearing and many attempted to persuade the committee to reject the ordinance, while several residents backed the measure.

Laptop Computers The newly adopted bow-hunting ordinance is designed to help the township win quicker state approval than it did last year to continue its five-year deer-management program, which would enter its fourth year this coming winter and spring.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Laptop Computer Committeeman Bernard Miller cast the only dissenting vote. That drew a look of surprise from Mayor Phyllis Marchand.

Desktop Computer "We've had a very effective deer management program to date without a bow hunting component," Miller said.

Notebooks While Marchand and the three other committee members voted in favor of the ordinance, they said they gave their approval reluctantly, to ensure that the state Fish and Game Council will allow the deer-management program to run its five-year course.

Lenovo The Fish and Game Council begrudgingly approved the township's deer-management plan for 2002-2003 on condition that the municipality allow sports hunting on public lands.

Hard Drive Prior to the newly adopted ordinance, the township restricted sports hunting - both bow and firearms - to private properties whose owners grant access to hunters as long as minimum state setbacks from nearby buildings and other state requirements are met.

Travelstar Despite the addition of a limited bow-hunting component that involves sports hunters from New Jersey at no cost to the township, the Connecticut-based wildlife-management company White Buffalo Inc. would continue to be the core of its deer-management plan over the next two years.

Gateway The Fish and Game Council could vote to allow the township to continue its deer-management program for the coming winter and spring at its Oct. 14 meeting.

Laptop Parts Princeton's reliance on White Buffalo at a cost of about $150,000 in each of the past three years has angered traditional sports hunters and animal-rights advocates.

Software Hunters have said they could do as good a job as White Buffalo at no cost to the township, while animal-rights advocates have largely decried any lethal means of deer population control as excessive.

Hard Drives White Buffalo uses both sharpshooters armed with rifles and a "net-and-bolt" system to kill deer.

Electronics Under that method, deer are trapped in nets and killed with a retractable metal bolt fired directly into the skull.

Canon Since starting the program three years ago, White Buffalo personnel have killed 905 deer here.

Desktop Pc In its third year, the program was expanded to include an experimental birth-control component on 20 female deer, three of which have died for reasons apparently unrelated to the trial. The township wants to expand that component for the program's fourth year to 50 more deer.

Desktop Computers The township had an estimated deer population of 1,300 to 1,600 at the onset of the program three years ago and wants to reduce that population to about 320 within the next two years.

Think Pad Township officials say that is the right number of deer for a healthy herd to coexist harmoniously with people and its habitat in this 16-square-mile suburban community.

Repair Critics contend hunting only expands the herd by increasing the birth rate among surviving deer.
