Singaporean Educational Institution Deploys Decru and Cisco for Business Continuity Lab
Republic Polytechnic and Decru Showcase Secure Disaster Recovery
SINGAPORE and REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Republic Polytechnic (RP), a government-funded educational institution in Singapore, and Decru, Inc., the leader in networked data storage security, today announced a showcase demonstration of secure replicated storage.
RP has purchased and deployed technology from Decru and Cisco Systems in RP's Business Continuity Lab, providing a hands-on test architecture for corporations and IT students in Singapore. Additionally, RP plans to develop extensions to Decru's SAN authentication software, enabling layered security for heterogeneous storage networks.
Business continuity has emerged as a key requirement for a wide variety of industries. However, many companies have struggled to reconcile replication and disaster recovery strategies with growing security and privacy requirements. As more replicated copies of data are created for availability, sensitive data is exposed to more people and more potential threats, fundamentally reducing the overall security of the system. In cases where backup copies of data are managed by third parties, the security and compliance concerns are magnified.
The RP secure disaster recovery showcase demonstrates best practices in storage-area network (SAN) design. Data is replicated between a primary data center and a disaster recovery center, enabling high availability across multiple sites. Data is secured at rest and in flight using the Decru DataFort(TM) FC520H storage security appliance. All data stored in the primary storage site is protected by DataFort using strong AES-256 encryption, and this encrypted data is replicated securely to the disaster recovery site, enabling high availability while dramatically reducing security exposure. Decru DataFort is seamlessly integrated with Cisco(R) MDS 9216 switches, providing a robust end-to-end solution for secure storage networking. "Business continuity and information security are increasingly vital to enterprise and government organizations, yet many IT professionals are struggling to balance competing requirements. Republic Polytechnic's mission is to take a leading role in providing problem-solving skills and practical IT knowledge, and our Secure Disaster Recovery showcase is a great example of this commitment," said Prof. Low Teck Seng, Principal and CEO of Republic Polytechnic. "We are very pleased to work with Decru on this project."
"Republic Polytechnic provides incredibly valuable services to the educational and corporate communities of Singapore. By providing hands-on examples of storage best practices for IT practitioners, the RP Business Continuity Lab helps turn theory into practice," said Nobu Fukatsu, director of Asia Pacific operations for Decru. "We are very supportive of RP and its mission, and we look forward to further collaboration."
