Around the early part of 2000 a tiny handful of products
were released by small groups of software manufacturers that
automated this task. While some of these products worked quite
nicely for some of the users' cases a few vendors automated
several processes that would not always work as stated. In some
cases this automation of several processes running either
simultaneously or serially would produce untoward results;
namely the entire corruption of the users' drive(s). Many
of the problems may have been resultant from the fact that
these products were attempting to cater to all or at least most
of the operating systems of the day. As we know now even though
the operating systems (especially in the Windows environment)
had many similarities; but enough structural differences to
complicate even the best software of the day. laptop battery
In our experience at the BleedinEdge we have noticed two
distinctly different types of marketing strategy utilized by
most of the software vendors; 1) be the first to release a new
product to the market thus taking advantage of the early
marketing hype and capturing early consumer interest; and 2)
those companies that used the "wait and see
philosophy" and make a concerted effort to assure these
flaws in these early releases of their competitors'
products were not present in theirs. While strategy #1 may have
been a bit sounder financially speaking, at least in the early
going, we were much more impressed by end result of those
companies that incorporated the "wait and see
philosophy". Their products were generally much more
polished and refined and as a general rule caused fewer
problems for their users. Such was the case for the product
that we are reviewing today, Acronis Disk Director Suite
9.0. thinkpad
The beginnings of Acronis Disk Director Suite 9.0 were spun
in early 2002 and continued into 2003 with the release of
several products; 1) Acronis OS
Selector - a software component that allowed
the user to install and boot from multiple operating systems
such as Windows and Linux on the same drive. It also would
create a partition on the users' drive specific to the OS
being installed; 2) Acronis
Partition Expert 2003 - a
complete user partitioning system that offered tools and
functions that other partition managers of the time were
incapable of performing; 3) Acronis
Recovery Expert - a product
allowing the user to recover from the accidental or incident
related deletion of a partition; and 4)
Acronis Disk Editor
- a professional-grade program that performs a variety
of actions on a hard disk: to restore boot records and files
and folders structure, to find lost clusters, remove computer
virus code from a disk, and the ability to edit you hard drive
up to and including hexadecimal editing. microsoft

Testimonials and User Comments
I just wanted to tell you how impressed I am with your
product. I bought Ghost for $70.00 and was never able to use
it, it did not like my CDRW drive, and their tech support told
me they had not tested with that drive so you are on your own.
Your product works perfectly, and has already helped restore an
accidently corrupted file. laptop parts

Partitioning definitions. Partitioning is dividing into
smaller pieces of resource, which can be hard disk drive
Here are given definitions of fundamental terms connected
with disk partitioning: types of partitions, multiple operating
systems and disk organization. software
Boot record
Boot record is found at the beginning of each logical
partition of a hard drive, it contains information about the
drive. Boot record on the active or bootable partition contains
a start up procedure that boots the operating system. hard drives
Bootable Disk
Bootable disk is any disk which contains boot files of the
operating system and is used to boot a computer. electronics
Booting
Booting is the process through which a computer goes when it
starts up, ending in the proper loading of the operating system
and preparing it to receive commands. canon
Dual Boot
Dual boot describes a computer which may have more than one
Operating system installed. For example it may have Windows and
Linux installed. Dual boot allows users to choose which
operating system they would like to load. desktop pc
File system is the way in which an operating system manages
a set of hierarchical files. It creates a data structure that
translates the physical (sector) view of a disc into a logical
(files, directories) structure... desktop computers
Hidden partition
Hidden partition is a logical section of a disk which is not
accessible to the operating system. Despite this fact a hidden
partition may contain files and folders like a normal

Master boot record
Master boot record is the first physical sector of a boot
device (floppy, hard disk, or CD-ROM, etc.) During the process
of booting up the system uses the master boot record of the

Partition
Partition is a logical section of a disc. It may have its
own file system. cisco
Partition table
Partition table is a table in the master boot record of a
hard disk that specifies how the disk is set up. It contains
such information as the size and location of partitions, which
operating system each partition uses... keyboard
A strategy that provides shared local hardware but leaves
users on their own is hardly optimal. But it can be modestly
effective if you educate users about the need for backing up.
Users are more comfortable backing up with hard drives than
tape or optical media for a number of reasons: fear of disk
swaps and tape rewind, bad memories of melted cassette tapes
and so on. monitor
As a matter of fact, users tend to be too comfortable with
external hard drives, not realizing that the backup drive is
just as likely to fail as the drive it's backing up. If
you're providing external hard drives, require or encourage
rotation. A secondary internal hard drive, while subject to the
same box-scale physical dangers as the primary
drive, is a hedge against drive failure and malware attacks and
avoids the threat of ham-handed employees. desktop
Despite the affinity many users feel for hard drives, a
baseline backup to removable, storable CD or DVD is the
appropriate first step for local backup. Hint: It's an
easier sell if you tell users they need to do it only once.
Just make sure they don't skip verification. The best
practice is to provide a safe location for storing these
backups, and they ideally should be cataloged by IT. infosys
If you decide on or are forced into a backup strategy that
leaves users on their own, don't fail to educate them on
backup do's and don'ts. Some users think they're
safe backing up data to a different folder on the same
partition. refurbished laptops
Even experienced users may fail to recognize the need for
redundancy, rotating backups, password protection/encryption
and simply backing up often enough. Better than education is
education and assisted implementation - install or configure a
local backup program for them that will run
hands-off in the background. Spending 10 to
20 minutes now can save your department hours in the
long run. wipro
Continuous Backup
If the data on a workstation or laptop is revision-intensive
or constantly evolving, continuous backup is well worth
considering. CDP is a hot feature these days and can be found
in products such as Atempo Inc.'s LiveBackup/LiveServ and
Tivoli Storage Manager and NetBackup. CDP on the desktop has
become almost a boom market since vendors discovered Windows
Volume Shadow Copy Service. NewTech Infosystems Inc.'s
Shadow and Stardock Corp.'s KeepSafe, which back up
designated files as they are saved or at frequent intervals,
are just two examples. IBM has even broken out the CDP from
Tivoli in order to market it to end users. Most CDP
applications can store multiple revisions and, with the
autosave feature, create an ad hoc document archiving
system. lap top
Whether it's DVD's or a USB Attached Removable
Disk, we don't care. Again, we're "hardware
agnostic", we will save to any media and of course, we
will also allow you to save over the Internet. Maybe you have a
VPN Connection to a Remote Server somewhere in Iron Mountain.
Instead of having a truck come by every night and you load all
your tapes into that truck and hope not of the tapes fall off
the back, you could electronically send your images to some
offsite location. refurbished
Alan:
Talking about backing up. First of all, what kind of server
or what type of equipment do we need to have installed in order
to use the Enterprise Version What does it install on memory
Stephen:
The Enterprise Version of Acronis True Image will install
on any Wintel machine that's running one of the Microsoft
Windows Server Operating Systems. It could be Windows Server
2000, it could be 2003. It's one of the primary
distinctions between Server product and the Workstation
product. The Workstation product will only run on desktop
operating systems. intel
Also, the product that's called Acronis True Image
Server, not Enterprise Server. The distinction here is that the
product that's just called Server is for standalone
servers. If you have an SMB and maybe you only have four or
five servers in your company and you don't necessarily
require the capabilities of a Management Console and you're
not worried about going out and managing hundreds or thousands
of servers. You can save quite a bit of money, simply by buying
standalone copies of Acronis True Image, they're not
designed to work over a network, but you can still schedule
your backups and do everything you can with the Enterprise
product. The difference is that you'll save roughly
30%. as400
Alan:
And so Workstation Edition, you basically can back up
multiple workstations, but you need a license per each
workstation. And the Server Edition works exactly the same,
except that it backs up servers, right averatec
Stephen:
That's correct. We used to call it Corporate
Workstation, now we just simply just call it Workstation. You
automatically will get the Management Console with each copy of
Workstation that you purchase. So, if you're going to be
backing up say, 100 networked desktops, you would need to buy
100 copies of the software, but all you need to do is put just
the agent out on 99 of those desktops. And then you can manage
everything from one management console. With the Enterprise
Server Edition, it works exactly the same way. You put an agent
out on each of the network servers and you can manage them from
a single management console. The console in fact can manage
both servers and workstations. And the console can be virtually
anything. It could be a laptop, it could be a desktop, and it
could be a server. It really doesn't matter. hardware

"Computer industry analysts estimate that some 60 percent of all corporate data exists only on desktop and laptop computers, " said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. "Incorporating Acronis True Image with New Mexico Software backup server is the ideal solution to capture that corporate data and ensure that it is not lost. While traditional server backups are effective for protecting server data, every company should have a combination of server and workstation backup plans."
Acronis True Image OEM for PC vendors, the complete disk imaging, backup and disaster recovery solution, is specially designed to meet a PC manufacturer' needs. The product creates a compressed image of the original system and stores it on a hidden hard drive partition. Additionally, Acronis True Image installs the proprietary boot manager that allows the launching of the system recovery routine in case any malfunctions occur. Pressing F11 at boot up creates the complete restoration of an image without using the computer's operating system.
