Share Photos, Invitations, Movie and Audio Clips, Group Greeting Cards, and More With Your Favorite Circles of PeopleWALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 13, 2004 -- Lycos, Inc., a network of diverse and highly- rated Internet brands and the wholly owned subsidiary of Korean Internet leader, Daum Communications Corp. (KOSDAQ: 035720), today announced the beta release of Lycos Circles (http://circles.lycos.com), the only social sharing platform of its kind. Circles is the next component in a series of releases to support the company's personal connectivity strategy announced earlier this year.
Lycos will officially unveil Circles at the Digital Life Conference, presented by Ziff Davis Media, beginning tomorrow at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, and running through Oct. 17.
Unlike other social networking sites, Lycos Circles focuses on helping users to stay connected, share content and manage relationships with people they already know as well as find new people who share their interests.
A recent Pew Internet & American Life Project Report (Aug. 2004) revealed that 88 percent of online Americans say the Internet plays a role in their daily routines and nearly all Internet users go online to conduct some of their ordinary day-to-day activities, including communicating with friends and family, exchanging greeting cards and invitations and planning gatherings. Internet users can now carry out all of these activities and more, in one place, on Lycos.
"Lycos Circles gives users a one-stop shop for sharing things, discussing and staying in touch with their favorite circles of people," said David Kim, CEO of Lycos. "Lycos Circles helps you be more efficient at socializing and staying connected with family, friends and the groups you care about most."
Lycos Circles features allow users to:
* Easily share topics, discuss, stay in touch and make plans with their favorite circles of people.
* Share whatever they want, with whomever they want, controlling who sees what.
* Share photos, invitations, movie and audio clips, group greeting cards, web sites and more.
* Create polls and predictions.
Unlike other social sharing sites, Lycos Circles allows users to set up as many groups at once, with overlapping group capabilities. Circles is also designed to maintain many separate conversations within a group. And Circles is the only social sharing platform that allows members to centrally store content and have control over what they share within each circle.
In the weeks to come, Lycos will enhance existing features, and introduce several additional components to Circles. These new features include photo printing capabilities through Shutterfly, Inc. (www.shutterfly.com), one of the leading online photo services, and several more sharing capabilities including the ability to share reviews, play lists and download music.
Lycos now enables users to create, find and share all in one place with best-of-breed products, all for free. Users can create and store content with Lycos' leading Web publishing, blog and photo album tools on Tripod (www.tripod.com) and Angelfire (www.angelfire.com); find content, people and more with Lycos People Search (http://peoplesearch.lycos.com) and Discussion Search (http://discussion.lycos.com); and share what they create and find through Lycos Circles.
