Bentley Commerce Introduces Its Gift and Stored Value "Scrip" Cards as Part of Its Seamless Integrated Worldwide Barter Processing Technology

Laptop Battery SARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 2004--Bentley Commerce Corporation (OTCBB:BLYC), www.bentleycommerce.com, the leader in online barter and trade, today introduced its gift and stored value "scrip" cards that it anticipates will soon be honored at thousands of locations in the US and Canada, and in other countries. These cards will be purchased by members of participating barter exchanges with trade dollars, and then used by Cardholders to pay for hotel and resort accommodations, and dining, just as if they had a gift certificate for the establishment.
The Gift Card follows the introduction of Bentley Commerce's Platinum Business Trade card, introduced last week , which is used for debit card purchasing using barter at the point of sale, and works off the same proprietary swipe card software technology on new terminals provided to merchants, or uploaded to merchants' existing supported terminals. Bentley Commerce is the first to offer swipe card technology to seamlessly process transactions between members of different trade exchanges, and to process transactions internationally, facilitating foreign currency exchange in real time.

What is a Network Interface Card (NIC) The most important PC device is the network interface card (NIC). Each computer on the network, including the servers, is required to have one installed. It is the NIC that provides connectivity between the PC and the network's physical medium, optic cable. Most of the new motherboards available today for PCs and servers have the network interface card integrated with the motherboard. Older computers and some newer computers do not provide onboard network interfaces which will equire a NIC to be added.

Thinkpad The approximate 15,000 business members in the 74 exchanges that have online access to Bentley Commerce's Global Trade Marketplace will be able to use trade dollars they earn from sales of their product or service to purchase Gift Cards and Scrip Cards (electronic gift certificates) that can be used at participating local members and restaurants, hotels and shops worldwide. Companies that provide traditional advertising, such as television, radio, magazines and newspapers, or online media firms, will be able to trade their excess inventory for gift cards branded with their logo to offer a Loyalty or Reward program to their advertisers and audience. Hotels will be able to trade their perishable inventory of room, food and beverage and restaurants, their excess seating capacity, for gift cards that can be used for promotions, giveaways and employee benefits or rewards.

While most laptops today feature integrated wireless connectivity, that is, they already have everything they need to connect to a wireless connection, some do require the use of a plug in card. standard PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) slots on your laptop (the PCMCIA slots are the little doors on the side of your laptop which are about the width of a mobile phone and around half a centimetre thick). Once the card is plugged in and set up (youa ll need to install appropriate driver software), youa ll be able to connect to a wireless network.

Microsoft "Our new Gift and Scrip Card is in response to requests made by our member exchanges to simplify their current manual scrip and certificate programs," said Bruce Kamm, Bentley Commerce's CEO. "It gives trade exchanges and their members exactly what they have wanted for years: the ability to load trade dollars onto a card that can be used as gifts, giveaways, promotions, or for personal use at various member establishments, while being able to track and control purchasing. This is a new service that will increase trading and generate immediate fees for exchanges, independent of when trade dollars loaded onto the card are spent."

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Laptop Computers "This is another step in Bentley Commerce providing an integrated technology platform capable of real time trade transaction processing worldwide," continued Mr. Kamm. "The member companies that are already part of Bentley Commerce's Global Trade Alliance, will be provided with Gift Cards and Scrip Cards branded with their respective exchanges' logo, that they will load with trade dollars from the buying member's account.

Laptop Computer "Cardholders will be able to make purchases, up to the amount of trade dollars loaded onto their card, from members in their exchange, as well as from members of other participating exchanges throughout the world," said Mr. Kamm. "This should also provide many new opportunities to expand the use of trade, as we are providing an easy to use system that parallels similar programs in the cash world. For example, we envision Bentley Commerce enabling thousands of companies participating in barter and trade through its Online Global Trade Alliance and Trade Exchange Network, as well as media and hospitality companies, to use their own excess capacity to fund contests, giveaways, promotions and reward programs."
