2Wire Ships Four-Millionth HomePortal, Doubling Residential Gateway Sales for Second Consecutive Year

San Jose, California - November 28, 2005 - Only four months after shipping its three-millionth HomePortal residential gateway, 2Wire has shipped its four-millionth unit doubling its residential gateway sales for the second consecutive year.
2Wires customers consist of the worlds major DSL broadband service providers. By focusing exclusively on the needs of telecom broadband carriers, 2Wire has capitalized on the rapidly growing number of DSL connections worldwide, and the increasing importance of service-provider-deployed home networking solutions.

According to market research and consulting firm Parks Associates, the number of service-provider-deployed networking solutions will continue to grow as more service providers begin to offer next-generation services. Parks Associates predicts that annual shipments of residential gateways will grow from 3.7 million units in 2005 to nearly 16 million units by the end of 2009.

The home networking solutions market has thus far been dominated by a retail distribution model, said Kurt Scherf, vice president of research for Parks Associates. In previous research, only 12% of current home network users indicated that they received home networking equipment from their broadband carrier. As carriers increasingly deploy home networks via residential gateways, we expect this number to grow and the home networking landscape to alter considerably. 2Wire is very well positioned to continue benefiting from this trend.

2Wires HomePortal residential gateways enable near-instantaneous set up of home networking, including high-powered, secure wireless Internet access throughout the home, and integrated advanced broadband services such as Parental Controls, Firewall Monitor, and Web Remote Access. With its remote diagnostic and automatic upgrade capabilities, 2Wires Component Management System (CMS) also helps improve the service providers bottom line by decreasing churn and lowering the cost of customer care.
