> GPS, GPS Navigation System, Global Positioning System GPS, Global Positioning System, functional satellite navigation system. GPS has become a vital global utility, indispensable for modern navigation on land, sea, and air around the world. It also provides an extremely precise time reference. GPS navigation (tracking) system is used by people around the world as a navigation aid in cars, airplanes, and ships. held GPS receiver can be used by mountain climbers and hikers
Thinkpad (EUNN) London - Europe's first navigation satellite system is set to launch. Its Galileo satellite system will be comprised of 30 navigation satellites that will circle the Earth at a cost of $3.5 bil Euros or $4 bil dollars. The Galileo satellite system represents the largest space investment so far by Europe and is expected to compete with the US-based Global Positioning System (GPS).
Conclusion The U.S. military invested billions of dollars building NAVSTAR (the official name for the GPS system) for military purposes and created the world’s greatest navigation system for civilian use as an afterthought. Okay, it did cost $14 billion to create the system and launch the satellites, but now we get to use the satellites essentially for free.
Microsoft The first Galileolaunch is setfor December 28.Europe will launch itssecond Galileospace flightearly next year. The entire Galileo navigation-satellite system is scheduled to be completed by late 2010.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
Laptop Computers The first two launches are trials of the Galileo satellite technologies needed to run the in-orbit system.
The Global Positioning System ( GPS ) based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. It was initiated in 1973 and the first GPS satellite was launched on 21 February 1978. GPS was originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use. GPS provides accurate, dimensional position, velocity, and time, in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.
Laptop Computer Europe's move into launching its own navigational satellite system is part of an EU initiative to establish its independent competitive edge in the world's communications marketplace.
-- IBM is a global leader in the creation, development and manufacture of cutting edge computer systems.
- Microsoft
Desktop Computer Currently, European businesses must rely on the US GPS satellite system.
Notebooks Europe's independence has already been building through its success with Airbus and the Ariane rocket programme. By expanding its communications independence through Galileo, the EU hopes tofurther cut its dependenceon American technology.
Lenovo The US-run GPS satellite system is controlled by the US military and even though its access is free, its signals can be turned off or degraded, making it unreliable for the European Union to have todepend on it rather than having its own navigation system for routing aircraft or controlling trains.
Hard Drive So unlike GPS, Galileo will be a civil-system rather than military control. Galileo is to be run by a consortium of private companies and is to offer a guaranteed level of service in order to assure users of its reliability in delivering satellite navigation.
Travelstar Unlike GPS, Galileo will offer five levels of service to provider more accurate satellite positioning information. GPS has blind spots and its often as much as 10m off because of its unreliability in delivering accurate signal information.
Gateway Part of the problem with GPS is its age. The first GPS satellite was launched in the late 1970s. The current level of technology has evolved greatly since then making the Galileo navigation-satellite system state-of-the-art in comparison to GPS.
Laptop Parts Galileo's system will offer greater accuracy, being able to penetrate buildings and give readings as close as 1 metre or less.
Software While Europe moves up in its navigation capabilities Galileo is said to be compatible to the US-based GPS system as the United States and Europe have entered into an agreement to make their sat-nav systems compatible and "interoperable". That is, future receivers will be able to get a fix using satellites from either constellation.
Hard Drives The agreement provides fora cooperation betweenEurope and America, so whenthe US introduces the next generation of GPS, users will see a further jump in performance.
