UCCnet Successfully Completes Beta Testing as Interoperable Data Pool to GS1 Global Registry

Will Serve as U.S. Data Pool, Providing Synchronization Services as Global Data Synchronization Network Moves Forward

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 2004-- UCCnet(TM) today announced that it has successfully completed beta testing as a standards-compliant, interoperable data pool to the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN).
The GDSN is a global, Internet-based initiative that will enable companies around the world to exchange supply chain information that is accurate, up-to-date, and conformant with universally supported EAN.UCC System standards. Utilizing a centralized global registry, called the GS1 Global Registry(TM), the network will connect participating source (manufacturer) and recipient (retailer) data pools around the world, and ensure that information is standardized, synchronized, and can be exchanged between trading partners on a near-real-time basis. Once fully implemented, the GDSN will improve data integrity and help companies reduce the costs associated with inaccurate supply chain information.

The beta data pool qualification process for UCCnet and other GDSN data pool participants was conducted by the Drummond Group Inc. (DGI), a leading interoperability and conformance testing company. Data pools that successfully passed the beta test demonstrated interoperability with at least two other data pools and the GS1 Global Registry. Under the GDSN structure, UCCnet will now function as a U.S. data pool, with UCCnet Data Pool Services replacing its previous UCCnet Registry and Synchronization Services. There will be no interruption to current subscribers who want to continue to exchange synchronized, standards-conformant data with leading trading partners. With its successful completion of the beta test program, UCCnet will be able to offer a connection to the new network through its newly established UCCnet Data Pool Services.

UCCnet, a subsidiary of the Uniform Code Council, Inc. (UCC), was established in 1999 to address the costly problem of inaccurate supply chain data, which has been estimated in numerous studies to cost industry over $50 billion annually in informational inefficiencies. Currently, over 3,700 retailer and manufacturer subscribers representing a variety of industry verticals utilize UCCnet for data synchronization services.

Commenting on the progress of the initiative, Michael Di Yeso, the President and Chief Operating Officer of the UCC said, "Incorrect data is like a virus to a business because it can infect and negatively impact so many processes. UCCnet will remain committed to helping companies, large and small, utilize data synchronization to reduce the cost and complexity associated with bad, inaccurate data. The Global Data Synchronization Network will take this effort to the next level, and we are pleased to be part of this important effort as it begins the first phase of its international rollout."
