Ukrainian Vocabulary One Ukrainian word that has become a
part of the English language is borscht. Another
cultural contribution of Ukraine is the beloved and well-known
Carol of the Bells, which is a traditional
Ukrainian folk song. As you learn the Ukrainian language, you
will notice that some words that sound like English have a very
different meaning in Ukrainian. For example, the Ukrainian word
rid means generation or origin. The
word is means from in Ukrainian. The
Ukrainian word dim means smoke and the word
on is an interjection meaning here! laptop battery
Formal and Informal Address in the Ukrainian Language There
are two forms of address in Ukrainian: the polite second person
plural vy and the familiar second person singular
ty. It is considered rude to use the familiar form
when first meeting someone, unless the person you are
addressing happens to be a small child. Always use the polite
form of address until you are invited to switch to the
familiar. The invitation to do so is a sign that your
friendship with the native speaker has reached a warmer, more
intimate level. thinkpad
Ukrainian Grammar In Ukrainian, nouns (as well as
adjectives, and most pronouns) decline in seven cases. Because
Ukrainian is highly inflected, the word order in sentences is
fluid. The declined endings of nouns identify the subject and
the direct and indirect objects, among other things. Ukrainian
verbs possess a feature called aspect. The aspect
can be perfective (action that has been completed) or
imperfective (ongoing action). A variety of prefixes that help
create perfective verbs convey shades of meaning that
frequently require several words to translate in English-- or
defy translation altogether. microsoft
One of the most difficult aspects of Ukrainian to master is
the correct placement of stress within words. The stress is
mobile and does not follow strict rules. To help you learn this
aspect of the Ukrainian language, all words of more than one
syllable in length are presented with a stress mark in
Transparent Language s multimedia software program,
Languages of the World. laptop computers
Because Ukrainian pronunciation is difficult to master,
regular practice is necessary to achieve true success.
That s why Ukrainian software programs can
be so useful. The fun games, grammatical explanations, and
native speaker recordings that accompany these programs will
provide you with a valuable tool in your quest for knowledge of
this beautiful language. Ukrainian Before You Lnow

member of the Turkic branch of the Altaic language family. It
is primarily spoken in Uzbekistan, although there are also
sizable communities of Uzbek speakers in Tajikistan,
Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan. Uzbek is closely
related the Uighur language and more distantly related to such
languages as Kazakh and Turkish. desktop computer
There are a number of dialects in the Uzbek language, spoken
in different regions of Uzbekistan and elsewhere. Television,
newspapers, and other forms of mass media tend to use a common
dialect that is widely understood throughout the country. notebooks
Uzbek Letters and the Uzbek Alphabet Uzbek has used several
different alphabets over the course of the past century. Prior
to 1924, it was written in an Arabic script. Afterwards, until
1940, it was written in a version of the Latin alphabet,
similar to English. From that point, it switched to a version
of the Cyrillic alphabet, similar but not identical to that of
Russian. That Cyrillic alphabet is still widely used, despite
movements to return to the Latin alphabet. In either alphabet,
Uzbek text is written from left to right, the same as English.
The Cyrillic letters have both capital and lowercase forms. lenovo
Uzbek Pronunciation and Uzbek Vocabulary Uzbek spelling is
generally phonetic, meaning that once you know the
pronunciation of the various Uzbek letters, you can usually
sound out words correctly. The stress in Uzbek words usually
falls on the last syllable. Uzbek vocabulary shares a number of
words with the related languages in the Turkic language family.
It also has a variety of loan words from other languages, most
notably Arabic, Persian, and Russian. hard drive
Uzbek Grammar Uzbek is considered an agglutinative language
because it indicates grammatical functions primarily by
attaching suffixes to word stems. Uzbek nouns decline to show
case, meaning that they change form to indicate their role in a
sentence. The five cases in Uzbek are the nominative, the
genitive, the dative, the accusative, and the ablative. Nouns
also take suffixes to indicate when they are plural. Uzbek
verbs take suffixes to indicate their tense, aspect, and
mood. travelstar
The typical word order for an Uzbek sentence is
Subject-Object-Verb, which is different from that of English.
Uzbek also uses postpositions, which come after the words they
apply to, in place of prepositions, which come before them.
However, as in English, Uzbek adjectives come before nouns.
Uzbek adverbs also come before the verbs they modify. gateway

Overview of the Vietnamese Language Vietnamese is spoken by
over sixty million people in Vietnam. There are also over a
million additional speakers of Vietnamese scattered across the
globe, including 500, 000 in the United States. Vietnamese is a
member of the Mon-Khmer branch of the Austro-Asiatic language
family. Other Mon-Khmer languages include Mon, which is spoken
in Burma; Khmer, which is spoken in Cambodia; and Muong, which
is also spoken in Vietnam. The language that developed into
Vietnamese probably originated in the area of the Red River,
which is in modern-day northern Vietnam. laptop parts
The Vietnamese Alphabet and Vietnamese Pronunciation
Originally, Vietnamese used a character-based writing system
that was similar to Chinese. However, in 1910, a romanized
script that had been devised by Catholic missionaries in the
17th Century was adopted as the official Vietnamese alphabet.
This writing system, called Qu c Ng (national
language), is still in use today. The Vietnamese alphabet
consists of 17 consonants and 12 vowels. Vietnamese is a tonal
language, meaning that the tone or pitch used when a word is
pronounced helps determine its meaning. There are six distinct
tones in Vietnamese: the level tone, the high rising tone, the
low falling tone, the low rising tone, the high rising broken
tone, and the low broken tone. software
Formal and Informal Address in the Vietnamese Language The
use of personal pronouns in Vietnamese is determined by the
age, marital status, gender, and social standing of the person
you are speaking to, as well as your relationship with that
person. Also, in Vietnamese, these forms of address are often
used in situations where they would be omitted in English.
Vietnamese Grammar Vietnamese grammar uses tends to use word
order and sentence structure to convey grammatical meanings,
rather than inflections within words. Many grammatical concepts
which would be expressed by word changes in English and other
languages are expressed with particles in Vietnamese. These
particles are generally short words that cannot readily be
translated into English. They fulfill a variety of functions in
Vietnamese, from indicating tense to increasing the politeness
of a sentence. Reduplication (repeating a word or part of word)
is another noteworthy element of Vietnamese grammar. hard drives
Vietnamese Vocabulary Because the Chinese ruled Vietnam for
hundreds of years, the Vietnamese language is full of Chinese
words. More recently, Vietnamese has also borrowed words from
French and English. Many Vietnamese nouns and verbs are made up
of individual segments of one of two syllables that work
together. These individual segments may have no meaning, or an
entirely different meaning when taken out of context. Sometimes
two words with the same meaning are combined for emphasis. In
Vietnamese, the flow and rhyme of the language are very
important. All of the elements in a sentence work together to
make a language which is often said to resemble poetry. electronics

Your email address: Overview of the Zulu Language Zulu is more
properly referred to as isiZulu. It is part of the Nguni
subgroup of the Bantu languages, which are part of the larger
Niger-Congo language family. Zulu is one of the 11 official
languages of South Africa, where the majority of its nine
million speakers can be found. The Zulu Alphabet and Zulu
Pronunciation data recovery
Zulu is written in a version of the Latin alphabet which was
adapted to the Zulu language in the early nineteenth century.
Many Zulu letters sound approximately like their equivalents in
English, while others are less similar. English speakers who
want to learn Zulu should be particularly aware of certain
letter combinations which are used to represent special sounds,
such as tsh representing the sound of ch in
English. cisco
Another notable feature of Zulu is the click sounds,
represented by the letters c, q, and
x in the Zulu alphabet. These sounds are not merely
decorations or effects; they are actual consonants that are
used in words in the same way as any other letter. Also note
that each type of click is a different sound. To a Zulu
speaker, the clicks are as different as, for example, the
sounds of the letters t and d in English.
Clicks are a common feature in Bantu languages, although Zulu
has fewer clicks than some of the other members of its language
family. keyboard
Zulu Grammar One of the first features that anyone learning
to speak Zulu will notice is the extensive use of prefixes
called concords. These prefixes are used to convey many types
of grammatical information. In the Zulu language, for example,
every noun consists of a noun stem plus a prefix. These
prefixes are determined by the class of the noun. Every Zulu
noun belongs to one of eighteen classes, although it is
generally accepted that, for normal purposes, there can be
considered eight. There are several singular classes, several
plural classes, and two neutral classes, each with its own
prefix. monitor
Zulu adjectives usually follow nouns, and they take prefixes
that agree with the class of the noun they are modifying.
Pronouns, too, are expressed as prefixes called subject
concords, which are attached to verbs. Zulu verbs are thus made
up of several parts: At its most basic level, a Zulu verb
contains a subject concord, a tense infix, and a verb stem. desktop

una profonda riflessione religiosa e un rinnovamento degli
impegni religiosi sia un momento per riconoscere gli sbagli del
passato. Per esempio, alcuni si aspettano che il Papa chieda il
perdono per le ingiustizie commesse durante l Inquisizione.

Although the new millennium doesn t officially start
until 2001, all around the world different cultures and
communities are making plans to celebrate the arrival of the
year 2000. In Italy, the Catholic capital of the world, special
preparations are being planned to commemorate 2000 years of
Christianity. As many as 30 million visitors are expected to
visit Rome alone during the year, including 10 million
foreigners and 20 million Italians (approximately one third of
the whole population of Italy). On a typical day, the Eternal
City will host more than 150, 000 people than normal. Some city
officials worry that the crowds will overwhelm the city, but at

The attraction of so many people to Rome lies partly in the
declaration of the year as a Jubilee Year by Pope John Paul II.
Jubilee celebrations date back to the Old Testament, and are
generally celebrated every 50 years or so. For Roman Catholics,
a Jubilee Year is one that calls for both deep religious
reflection and a renewal of religious commitments as well as a
time to acknowledge past errors. Some expect the Pope to ask
pardon for the injustices committed during the Inquisition, for
example. Others hope he will examine the Church s
anti-Semitic past. The Pope is also planning a visit to the
Holy Land (Jerusalem and Bethlehem) in the spring of 2000 if
the political climate permits. hardware
Of course not every Catholic will be able to make the trip
to Rome to celebrate the events alongside the Pope. For this
reason, five thousand churches and cathedrals around the world
will be named Holy Gates. From Christmas 1999
through the entire following year, these Holy Gates will be
available to Christians who want to take part in the worldwide
Jubilee spirit. dual xeon
While the emphasis of the year 2000 attractions in Italy is
largely religious, there are other more secular projects being
developed as well. For example, many cities are simultaneously
planning major renovations or cultural events. In Rome, for
instance, city planners are working hard on improving the
network of roads and subways, which of course will benefit not
only the millions of tourists to the area but the Romans
themselves. 33 bridges are also being restored, including the
oldest bridge in the city which dates to 62 BC. Additionally,
several of the most famous fountains and monuments are being
cleaned and refurbished. In Bologna, one of the cities
participating in European Cultural Cities of the Year
2000 , seminars and events are to be sponsored around the
chosen theme of information and communication. In Assisi, where
Saint Francis Basilica was partially destroyed in the 1997
earthquake, enormous restoration projects are underway to
prepare the church for tourists in the year 2000. The structure
of the building will be repaired and the damaged frescoes will
be restored as well. storage

Istruzione all italiana A volte mi pare che i miei
amici italiani non si laureeranno mai. Dopo essermi laureata ho
iniziato a lavorare qui negli Stati Uniti, mentre loro
continuano a studiare per gli esami. Come ho scoperto,
l istruzione italiana non tanto diversa da quella
americana, nel senso che ci sono quattro livelli
d istruzione obbligatori e pagati dallo stato: scuola
materna, scuola elementare, scuola media, e scuola superiore.
uomini. Adesso, per ci sono sempre pi professoresse e
studentesse in quel ambiente.
Solo dopo
scuole tradizionali. Oggi i metodi ed i principi pedagogici

Italian Education Sometimes it seems to me that my Italian
friends will never graduate from college. After I graduated, I
entered the working world here in the United States, while they
continue to study for exams. As I discovered, Italian schooling
is not very different from American schooling, offering four
required levels of state-funded, obligatory instruction:
nursery school, elementary school, middle school, and secondary
school. The university system, however, is different. used computers
In Italy, for example, the cost of university study is
almost completely covered by the state, and therefore every
student pays just a nominal price to attend. Another difference
between the two systems is that the majority of Italian courses
do not require attendance. This allows many students to have a
stable job during the day. A third difference is that, in
Italy, one must choose a department from the very beginning,
and exams are only in the subjects that pertain to that
department. For example, a physics student would not take exams
in history or literature. If a student wants to change
department, the exams he has already taken generally don t
count in the new department. network
The subjects studied are similar to those in the United
States, with departments for economics, law, the sciences and
the humanities. Exams, which are generally oral and open to the
public, are held at the end of the courses. The professor
assigns a grade immediately after the exam, and if the student
passes, he can choose to accept the grade or else retake the
exam to earn a better grade. digital cameras
Until the second half of this century, both the professors
and the students at the university in Italy were almost all
men. Now, however, there are an increasing number of both
female professors and students in that environment. Teaching
small children, however, has been considered a suitable
profession for Italian women for many centuries. It is
interesting to note that Maria Montessori, mother of one of the
most well known pedagogical philosophies in the world, refused
to become a teacher in her youth because it was such a popular
profession among women. Montessori, born in Ancona, in the
Marches region in 1870, considered teaching a
refuge for women who did not want to stay home or
join a convent. Instead, she became the first female doctor in
Italy. Only later did she develop her revolutionary pedagogical
methods. desktops
The unorthodox methods of teaching that made Montessori
famous always stemmed from scientific research on childhood
that she did as a doctor. At Montessori schools, the teacher
assumes a more passive than controlling role. For example, the
students select projects for themselves and work on them only
as long as they wish to do so. After the first Montessori
Children s House was opened in 1907, people
were amazed to discover that Montessori students remained
focused for longer periods of time and learned the school
subjects more quickly than those who attended traditional
schools. Today Montessori s methods and pedagogical
principles continue to impress those who witness their
results. cognos
