Pirates Nabbed In NY
IGN reported tonight that the police have made four arrests in a game smuggling case involving Nintendo products. Apparently, over 60,000, yes that's sixty-thousand, illegal games were seized during the arrests. The pirates were trying to unload a score on undercover agents that included Nintendo classics such as Duck Hunt, Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.
According to papers filed by the agents in the case, the alleged bootleggers moved 280,000 pieces of illegal video game hardware from September through December of last year.
Nothing was mentioned about specific hardware in the article, however, it would not be surprising if this hardware was the kind of stuff being sold at mall booths across the country as recently as this holiday season. You may have seen it: consoles shaped like an N64 game pad with "hundreds" of NES games built in. Nintendo started cracking down when they became aware of that problem late last year.
Pirates and smugglers beware.
