Sony Teams With Cingular to Offer Wireless Notebook

Laptop Computers May 12, 2005 (AXcess News) New York - Sony Corporation has teamed up with Cingular to offer nationwide high speed wireless Internet access in their latest notebook computer, the Vaio T350.

Laptop Computer Sony's Vaio T350, which is priced starting at $2,199, offers users built-in capability to access the internet using high speed wide area network (WWAN) technology via the Cingular cellular network.

Desktop Computer Sony's wireless notebook computer weighs only 3 pounds, without the power adaptor and offers short-range wireless capabilities using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies in addition to WWAN.

Notebooks The Vaio T350 offers users Internet access speeds at twice the capacity of dial up modems, though users would need to get a UMTS card for their computer if they wanted to use Cingular's UMTS technology. UMTS is currently only available in six cities, though Cingular intends on rolling its new technology out to more cities in the future. Users would either need to continue to use the EDGE network or purchase an external UMTS card for the computer.

Lenovo To deploy the wireless access Sony Vaio T350 users would need to sign up for one of Cingular's plans. Plans start at $80 a month for unlimited national access or $50 for 50 megabits worth of data usage per month.Sony said it plans on building notebook computers in the future that will use Cingular's UMTS technology, but no launch date was given.
