Microsoft Upstartle said yesterday that it was closing off new registrations for its Writely Internet-based word processor application while they move to Google's software architecture.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Lenovo Google's acquisition of Upstartle is not the first venture by the search engine into offering competitive software to Microsoft. Last year, Google and Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNM) entered into a joint marketing agreement where Google began referring users to OpenOffice, a free equivalent to Microsoft's Office that is backed by Sun.
Hard Drive While Microsoft's products come with more support, there is a high price tag to it and a short support period for free. Add to that Microsoft's history of backing off on support when it launches a newer version and you might find more people graduating to alternatives such as Google's Writely or Sun's OpenOffice.
