At the top end of the trailerable boat range, you run into challenges everywhere you turn. Storing a 30-footer is neither easy nor cheap. Insurance typically runs much higher, and towing one of these monsters can be a big issue. Some states often require a permit to tow boats with beams wider than 96 inches. And once you get your permit, what kind of truck can tow a 10,000-pound boat?

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Microsoft After commuting and towing a couple of boats with this behemoth, we can tell you that first impressions aren?t always as lasting as those that come from some quality seat time.

Laptop Computers For example, when we picked up our F-350, we began by inspecting the truck?s undercarriage: Dana solid front axle, multileaf front springs, drag-link steering with a damper and brake rotors as big as manhole covers. Very serious hardware, which we originally thought would make it ride rougher than an offshore race boat on 8-foot seas. But no.

Laptop Computer The F-350 soaks up minor bumps and pavement undulations with so much more grace than similar-size trucks of years past, which is a welcome change. Pavement gaps, lane reflectors, and potholes that normally would telegraph a healthy jolt through the suspension and into the interior are largely non-issues.

laptop computers is driving strong sales for notebook computers, according to the latest quarterly sales figures from the research firm IDC, which reported a 37% computer sales for the second quarter, compared with a year earlier. In the U.S., laptop sales grew 17.7%, while sales of desktop computers and servers fell 4%. The New York Times ( 10), CNET ( 10)

Desktop Computer Larger potholes also don?t upset the chassis to the point of being dangerous or a nuisance. Sure, you feel the jolt, but the truck remains poised and composed.

Notebooks Unlike the Excursion we tested for our December 1999 issue, which exhibited some chassis flex and high-frequency vibrations inside the cabin when driving over bumps, the F-350 remains rigid and unmoved when traversing rough pavement. This no doubt results because the body is smaller overall than the Excursion and the bed is a separate assembly. Still, inside there is enough room for six adults to travel in comfort ? really.

Lenovo We towed a couple of boats with the F-350 over a couple of weeks? time. Our photo boat, of course, came first. On the way to a few photo shoots, it was easy to forget about the boat in tow. Tall and wide with a lot of wind resistance, our catamaran can pose a challenge for some trucks. Clearly not the case with the F-350, so we moved up to something larger.

Hard Drive Our sister publication, Sport Fishing magazine, also has an offshore power catamaran ? even larger than our photo boat. Weighing in at 5,500 pounds, plus a 1,000-pound triple-axle trailer, this boat can strain ordinary gasoline engines, overload standard-duty transmissions and weaken ordinary springs.

Travelstar The F-350 hauled the cat from Miami to Port Canaveral, Florida, with aplomb, never exhibiting any tail-bobble or bounce that can come from towing too much weight or pushing too much wind. The front end never felt light or unattached to the road ? no doubt because of the heavy front axle and running gear ? and inspired confidence. Like the Excursion, the F-350 netted respectable mileage, even with a boat in tow: never less than 13 miles a gallon. Initial acceleration ? or tip-in, as it?s called ? is perfect for towing, because the first few centimeters of pedal travel produce a slow, smooth takeoff from a standstill. No hitch-ball-jarring starts here. Slow and steady wins the race. The diesel just hammers away beneath the hood, which brings to mind a great feature on the truck?s stereo system.

Gateway When the truck is running, the volume on the stereo or disc player is a little higher to compensate for engine noise. Turn off the engine and the volume decreases. On acceleration, engine noise is a little obtrusive, especially when the windows are open, but at steady cruising speeds, cabin noise is minimal and doesn?t require you to ?speak up? to hold a conversation with other passengers.

Laptop Parts When it comes time to stop, the F-350 is probably one of the best tow vehicles we?ve ever driven, due in no small part to the thought put into the truck?s braking system. When we looked underneath the truck the first day we had it, we noticed that not only were the four-wheel disc-brake rotors larger in diameter, but they also were thicker than usual.

Software Larger rotors mean more contact area for the brake pads to grip, which is part of what gives this truck such good braking power. Thicker rotors mean there is more metal to absorb heat that can come from lots of stop-and-go driving, which that can lead to brake fade ? something you don?t need with a 10,000-pound boat clamped to your bumper. And because there is a disc brake at each corner of the truck ? rather than antiquated drum brakes ? the F-350 offers excellent brake feel.

Hard Drives The overall feel of F-350 is one of quality and longevity, which makes spending time in it that much more comforting ? and that?s a lasting impression.
