N5 To Appear At E3
Laptop Battery Earlier this week the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that Nintendo had decided not to release a new console to succeed the GameCube. That report, however, was not true. If you missed our earlier stories, click here and here to read them.
Following the Nihon Keizai Shimbun's article, Nintendo was forced to being doing damage control and working to rebuild confidence in its next-generation plans. Earlier this week Nintendo of America's Head of Public Relations, Beth Lewyn, stated that "Nintendo has several hardware strategies in the works for the future, and were also considering new peripherals for the GameCube. Nintendo is still working on the successor to the GameCube, and it will launch either before the PS3, or Xbox 2 or around the same time."
Today, Nintendo's Japanese Public Relations Chief Yasuhiro Minagawa spoke out on the comments in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. He said that the comments were "Supposed to mean that Sony and Microsoft are expected to release their next-generation consoles from 2005 to 2006, and we also won't be releasing one until that period."
In addition, Minagawa said, "Like our Nintendo DS portable game machine, our home game machine must offer an experience that can be enjoyed by adults, children, or women. We would like to show this at E3 next spring." And they will. According to Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbun, who quotes senior Nintendo executives, Nintendo's next home console will be shown at E3. However, the E3 in everyone's minds is not the E3 Nintendo plans to show the N5 off at. Nintendo plans to have the N5 ready for E3 2005, not E3 2004 which is just three months away.
