Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

The biggest is EnCap, which calls for placing a golf resort and 1,780 town houses and apartments on land in the Meadowlands now mostly used for landfills. Other proposals call for building 350 housing units on the old DeMassi Cadillac site, and another 350 units across from town hall as part of a transit village project. In addition, a project proposed for Riverside Avenue calls for building a five-story building with 160 one- and two-bedroom apartments.

In the U.S., laptop sales grew 17.7%, while sales of desktop computers and servers fell 4%. The New York Times ( 10), CNET ( 10)

Desktop Computer The Riverside Avenue project is expected to be completed in 18 months. The other projects will likely come later, with EnCap the furthest away - scheduled for a 2009 groundbreaking.

Notebooks The EnCap plan has prompted the most concern because if its massive scale, but Guida said it comes down to a choice between having garbage or people inhabit the Meadowlands.

Lenovo He said it will bring a lot of money to the town while having a manageable effect on the schools. Initial data from EnCap showed it would generate about $19 million annually in tax revenue while adding about 200 children to the school district. But Guida said the number of new students could be less because the developer recently increased the percentage of the project that will be dedicated to senior housing.

Hard Drive Despite initial delays, an EnCap spokesman said the developer is committed to the plan and to being a good neighbor.

Travelstar "We've always been community-minded,'' said spokesman Rich Ochab.

Gateway He said the developer will post a $1 million letter of credit to cover any school impact.

Laptop Parts Joseph Abate, superintendent of the seven-school, 2,164-pupil system, said the board has plans to spend up to $50,000 next year to hire an expert to study how development would affect schools. He said the district will likely revise its long-range plan to include proposed construction.Abate said the recently renovated high school could probably accommodate a student influx. The elementary schools, he said, are a different story. He said class sizes - ranging between 16 to 24 students - are at peak numbers. If construction generates a lot of new students in the next two years the district would not be ready and perhaps would have to consider split sessions and portable classrooms, he said.

Software But by attracting mostly senior housing developments, the town could end up benefiting from all the new construction, said James Hughes, dean of the school of planning and public policy at Rutgers University. He said age-restricted dwellings "tend to produce fiscal surplus."

Hard Drives More than half of the apartments and town houses in the EnCap and Riverside Avenue developments would be for seniors.

Electronics Benedetto said the projects could help pay for a long-talked about middle school that has an estimated $50 million price tag.

Canon "The only way to [build a middle school] is to let some of those projects take place,'' Benedetto said.

Desktop Pc Despite the impact on schools and municipal services, some officials see the growth as good for a community that has shrunk from a population of nearly 23,000 people in the 1970s.

Desktop Computers "A certain amount of growth is usually good,'' Township Commissioner Mark Gumble said.

Think Pad As for those who fear construction will make the community too urban, Gumble estimated that most of the township's population hails from Hudson County.

Repair "They didn't move to Hackettstown,'' he said. "They moved five miles away. Let's be honest, this is not the suburbs.''
