Notebooks AXcess News interviewed IBEX's Baehr about its results, focusing
in on its arthritis biomarker market. When asked about its 54%
growth in that market Baehr was tight-lipped to name pharmaceutical
manufacturers that were delivering or developing arthritic drugs
due to the sensitivity of that information to the manufacturer.
Baehr expressly stated that many of the larger, well known, drug
companies that use IBEX's biomarker products do not want their work
exposed.
Lenovo But last year one of those larger drug companies did expose the
use of IBEX's biomarkers. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ), who
disclosed their IBEX relationship in an American College of
Rheumatology write up.In late 2004, Pfizer, Inc. (NYSE: PFE)
announced that its arthritic drug, Bextra, had come under fire by
the FDA over risks of heart attack amongst patients that used it.
Baehr would not disclose if IBEX had a relationship with Pfizer,
though few products make it out of the research laboratories
without having used tools like those sold by IBEX.
Hard Drive Baehr had disclosed in the company's third quarter results
announcement that five major drug companies used IBEX's biomarkers.
Pfizer may be one of them, though Baehr would not comment.
Travelstar Baehr explained that the company was working on cancer assay
products that aide cancer researchers but that it was sensitive and
required more time to test and develop. That its cancer products
were exciting and held great potential to develop IBEX's sales.
Gateway Though IBEX is moving into a niche area that is sure to be
lucrative for the small biotech company, it appears to have enough
cash to get it there and with Baehr's tight-lipped response to our
questions regarding IBEX's arthritic biomarkers, it appears that
those products could lift IBEX out of its negative results before
its cancer assay biomarker products are ready for market, which
Baehr pegged to be sometime in 2007.AXcess News will be reporting
