Laptop Battery Warren County freeholders could approve a bond of up to $5.5 million to buy open space by the fall, board director Michael Doherty said Wednesday. The debt on the bond would be paid through the county's open space trust fund and entail no additional cost to the taxpayers, county Planning Director David Dech said.

Thinkpad Dech requested the freeholders borrow after providing an overview on the county's open space program.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
Microsoft Bond funds would give the county "a lump sum up front" for open space acquisition and farmland preservation, said Freeholder James DeBosh. It's important to acquire property now because "if it's developed, it's gone," he said.
Katz runs the company with 22 paid employees and 300 volunteers who give technical support to new users and are compensated with free memberships (remember those days at AOL ). Laptop Computer The freeholders will consider the issue in the coming months, but are likely to approve Dech's request because "this freeholder board is committed to preserving open space," Doherty said.
Desktop Computer Dech's request was part of a larger presentation to the freeholders on the county's open space and farmland preservation efforts. Since 1993, the county has acquired 1,328 acres of undeveloped land, Dech said.
Notebooks There are 1{ miles of preserved land along the Morris Canal, which runs northeast through the county. The county has 386 acres of land surrounding White Lake in Hardwick Township and 428 acres of the Oxford Mountains in Oxford and Washington townships, Dech said.
Lenovo The Oxford-Washington parcels are part of a larger conservation project that will link land from Phillipsburg to Sussex County and into Orange County, N.Y., he said.
Hard Drive The Morris Canal Corridor project could become an historic attraction, Dech said. The county has a grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to reconstruct the 33-mile portion of the canal corridor that is in Warren County. Dech estimated that 75 percent of the corridor could be preserved. Currently, 14 percent is preserved, he said.
Travelstar Warren County has balanced open space preservation with farmland preservation, residents told the freeholders, and should continue to do so.
Gateway "You have a nice, balanced program, but I think a slight shift could be necessary," said Bob Canace of Frelinghuysen Township.
Laptop Parts Canace, who is president of the Ridge and Valley Conservancy and sits on the county's agricultural development board, said the county should consider preserving more farmland.
Software Preserving farmland "is the best way to keep open space and to keep development down," said Jake Matthenius, a former freeholder. "I think it's a good buck spent."
Hard Drives Duane Copley, director of the county's farmland preservation program, asked the freeholders to add funding for a full-time position -- there are two part-time workers on staff now -- so the program can handle all of the applications it receives for farmland preservation.
Electronics The county has about 7,000 acres of farmland preserved to date, Copley said, and the program has a goal of approving 1,500 acres a year for preservation. The county approved 1,600 acres of land for preservation in 2001, he said.
Canon "There's only three other counties in the state that preserve more land than we have," Copley said. "That's pretty good for little old Warren County."
