Laptop Battery Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt, the Bush administration's nominee to head the Environmental Protection Agency, was urged on Wednesday to implement federal rules by spring 2004 to reduce polluting emissions from heavy equipment and other non-road engines that run on diesel fuel.
Fuel refiners will be required to produce cleaner diesel fuel under the new rules, which the EPA proposed a year ago. Also, Cummins Inc., Caterpillar Inc. and others, starting in 2008, will have to build engines that strip out more harmful particles in emissions linked to asthma and other serious respiratory ailments. EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt was to brief President George W. Bush on the rules later on Monday and finalize the rules on Tuesday, the EPA said in a statement.
Thinkpad Wednesday was the final day for public comments on an EPA proposal to sharply cut diesel pollution, which aggravates asthma, contributes to heart disease, causes lung cancer and obscures visibility in national parks.
road diesel equipment emits about 25 percent of nitrogen oxides from U.S. mobile sources, the EPA said. "The rule will be a major help to areas nationwide in their effort to reach clean air goals and improve public health, " the EPA said. The entire U.S. road diesel equipment will likely meet the new standards by 2030 depending on their life cycle, the EPA said.
Microsoft As co-chair of the Western Regional Air Partnership, Leavitt called on the EPA in January 2003 to adopt regulations to clean up diesel heavy equipment and other non-road diesel engines.
(AXcess News) Dangle a carrot and you might get a nibble, as the old saying goes and for the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington DC, that's worked real wellthrough $1 million in grants being awardedthanks to the EPA's National Clean Diesel Campaign. EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson announced the recipients of 10 grants totaling more than $1 million to support clean diesel projects. The value of the grants will nearly triple to $3 million, as industry partners contribute almost two dollars for every dollar of federal funds.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
Desktop Computer The EPA had said it would issue final rules in April 2004.
Notebooks The coalition said the oil industry is lobbying to weaken the enforcement mechanisms in the diesel proposal, and diesel engine manufacturers are pressing for loopholes, exemptions and further delay.
Lenovo ``Cleaning up diesel heavy equipment and fuel is a no-brainer. This is a huge source of pollution, but we have the tools to clean it up as long as the EPA doesn't bow to special interests,'' said Frank O'Donnell, executive director of the Clean Air Trust.
Hard Drive The EPA proposal, released in May, covers the fuel and engines used to power diesel construction, farm, surface mining and industrial equipment.to the catalytic converters used on cars for decades, EPA's proposed rules would reduce pollution from new diesel equipment by more than 90 percent.
Travelstar The agency said its plan would eventually prevent more than 9,600 premature deaths each year. The proposal mirrors earlier clean air rules for diesel trucks and buses.
