(Nasdaq: GOOG) said Tuesday that it appointed ex-UTStarcom (Nasdaq: UTSI) president, Johnny Chou to lead its China Internet operation as the new president of that division. Chou's role as president will include building Google's sales and channel businesses, and expanding the company's strategic partnerships in the region.

To that end, Google's investment is a long-term development and hopefully, one that pays off for its shareholders as well as the people of China.
