Thinkpad (AXcess News) Reno, NV - Google Corp. (Nasdaq: GOOG) has just released its Google Desktop 3.0 beta with several new features, such as drag and drop sidebar panels, content sharing and multiple computer search.

As you know, Urchin was acquired by Google in 2005. Google now offers Google Analytics as a free service to users with a Google Account. Since Google's acquisition of Urchin, Google has not made updates to the software version of the Urchin site analytics tool, and Google does not have plans to support the software version in the future.

Microsoft Critics say that the upgraded Google Desktop tool stores your search information on Google's servers, making it easier for privacy invasion - either by the government or Google itself.

Google Desktop gives you easy access to information on your computer and from the web. It's a desktop search application that provides full text search over your email, computer files, music, photos, chats and web pages that you've viewed. By making your computer searchable, Google Desktop puts your information easily within your reach and frees you from having to manually organize your files, emails and bookmarks. It makes searching your computer as easy as searching the web with Google.

Laptop Computers While Google possibly could use the information for advertising customers looking to reach users who access certain types of information, like automotive web sites for instance, to consider that an invasion of privacy is a stretch of the imagination. And if Google were subpoenaed for that information, it wouldn't matter whether it was stored in one file on a Google server or not, regulators could still get their hands on it for investigation purposes. The real issue is whether Google China, or other foreign divisions, has easy access to that privacy information and in that matter, Google's not talking. But regardless of your level of Internet paranoia, the features of Google Desktop 3 are interesting.

If you have Google, Yahoo, Windows, or X1 desktop search installed on your computer, you can search your desktop from any mobile phone.

Laptop Computer The Google Desktop 3 drag and drop feature lets web users drag a panel out of a sidebar and place it anywhere they want on their desktop, orbring the panels to the foreground or push them to the background with a single click.

| Please enable javascript to use tools. Google's powerful but controversial new search feature, which allows PC users to search files on remote computers, has come under heavy fire from the EFF for potential privacy violations. The Electronic Frontier Foundation, a digital rights advocate, recently issued a stern warning to consumers about using an enhancement to Google Desktop that stores copies of the contents of their hard drives on the search company s servers.

Desktop Computer The Desktop 3 sharing featureis interesting because it allows a user to send content from a sidebar to others using chat or email, or through a new feature thatlets you send sidebar content directly to the sidebar of other users, by draggingit into your Google Talk buddy list.

Notebooks The Google Desktop 3 also allows users to search across multiple computers, like your desktop and laptop all at the same time. but this feature has to be enabled, which is not that difficult to do as setup is fairly easy. To use the multiple computer search feature you must have a Google Account, which anyone can sign up for - and its free: http://www.google.com/accounts.

Lenovo The multiple search feature in Google Desktop 3 works for commonMicrosoft files like Word, Excel, Powerpoint andPDF or text files in My Documents.

Hard Drive The Google Desktop 3 search feature also includes password protection and lets youindex zip files, the ability to disable indexing and the ability to perform advanced search queries.

Travelstar The new Google Desktop 3 beta is available in English only, but Google says that it will be made available in 16 languages by the end of the first quarter. Google Desktop 2 already works in 16 languages.

Google Desktop 3 is currently available for Windows XP and Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and above. It requires 500 MB of available space on your hard disk, with a recommended minimum of 256 MB of RAM and a 400 MHz (or faster) Pentium processor. To download the Google Desktop 3, visit http://desktop.google.com.
