The King is Dead?

Laptop Battery After all these years of faithful service to the gaming community, Nintendo has announced that they plan on ending the Mario franchise. To make matters worse, Nintendo also announced that if their yearly earnings for 2004-2005 do not improve by at least 68% as a whole, they will shut their doors down, not only ending an era of great video gaming, but also a tradition. Microsoft on the other hand has announced that their plans for the X-Box 2 are moving more smoothly then they anticipated and are hoping to have their second system out as early as Christmas 2004! Not only will the system be new, but Microsoft also revamped their whole X-Box Live servers with new features they assure will blow the industry wide open.

Hurry! Quickly type in the web address of your favorite message board and spread these rumors quick! Stop readinggo do it! Are you still here? Good. Unlike many others out there, you have proven to have a brain connected to your head. Rumors are vicious animals. It starts off so innocently like a puppy, and then before you know it, the puppy is eating your slippers and destroying your furniture. Although it doesnt help that the neighbors kids make fun and screw around with the dog even though you have told them thousands of times to leave the poor dog alone.

Okay, enough analogies, this is what I wanted to say. Please, for all that is good and holy in this world do not, I repeat, do not spread rumors. Of course, I would also have to beg people to not BELIEVE the rumors until they are confirmed. Nothing will create a rift between people and message boards quicker then when someone reads a rumor and spreads it around as fact.

Let me tell you a true story. This happened to me over a year ago. I walked into a game store that will remain nameless. I had partaken in a conversation with the stores manager. He had been to a gaming conference where he had not only seen but played many games that were not even demoed for the public yet. He was in the middle of telling me what he thought of Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. When I heard a voice from behind me ask, You a fan of Nintendo? I responded by saying that I was. He proceeded to console me and tell me how sad he is for me that Nintendo is going third-party. Now I had heard that rumor and I investigated it already by going to official news sites i.e. www.nintendo.com. I had found no evidence that the rumor was true. I had informed him that there was no proof and that Nintendo has not said anything of the sort. He then told me that I was a, and I quote, Misguided pathetic fanboy that just cant handle the truth. I was appalled at what he called me and it showed. I stood my ground and firmly disagreed with him and told him he should look up the facts himself. He answered by saying that he had a press release from Nintendo stating they were going third-party. I called him a liar to his face and he was so irate that he threatened to beat me up (I am cleaning his language up). The gentleman left the store in a huff and when the coast was clear, the store manager informed me that the man I had this spat with was his regional manager. I was even more shocked that a man in his position would be spreading such lies and rumors.
