Staff Boot straps, jibes and water starts are foremost on your mind. You've gotten a taste of a shortboard's speed potential and now you're hooked. Problem is, you live in Yourtown, USA, with a wind average of 7.2 mph, so you don't get much practice. The key for you is to be practical. You should look for a sail that's easy to uphaul, water start and rig, and that has plenty of power. Good luffability and perfect cam rotation are big advantages, but not essentials. If you see a trip to Maui, Aruba or the Gorge in your future, don't sweat it, just rent a smaller sail.
