Newton Receives 4 Water Plant Bids

Laptop Battery Proposals from contractors to build a water-filtration plant for Newton came in under budget yesterday, town officials said. A state-mandated water filtration plant at the town's Morris Lake reservoir in Sparta is estimated to cost $6.5 million, and the town council adopted a $7 million bond for the project last fall.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. Desktop Computer To offset the cost of the water- filtration plant, Newton had been planning to sell at auction 95 acres near the reservoir atop Sparta Mountain for $1 million.

Laptop Parts Meanwhile, Sparta and the conservation group have been negotiating with Newton to buy the 95 acres. Sparta has offered $300,000, which is the assessed value of the forested tract, with the township and conservation group to split that amount, Sparta Mayor Michael McKenna said.

Software Sparta's share would be halved by a $75,000 contribution from the county's Open Space Trust Fund, and the township is seeking a state grant for the rest of the $700,000, he said.

Hard Drives McKenna said he did not know when negotiations may be resolved, adding, "It can't happen fast enough for us."
