Rescuers Try To Free Whale Off A.C. Shore

Laptop Battery Rescue personnel from near and far mobilized quickly Friday in an attempt to free a highly endangered whale tangled in fishing line several miles off the coast here. But for all their hard work, it remains uncertain whether the 45-foot North Atlantic right whale - one of an estimated 300 remaining in all the world's oceans - will survive.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Thinkpad According to Bob Schoelkopf, director of the marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, the eight-hour rescue operation began around 10 a.m. Friday when the center received a call from the U.S. Coast Guard reporting that a boater fishing about three miles off Long Beach Island had seen a large whale towing a long plume of fishing line.

Microsoft Coast Guard Group-Air Station Atlantic City dispatched several boats and a helicopter and transported Schoelkopf to the scene. Once he was able to verify the species and the nature of the entanglement, authorities called the Center for Coastal Studies on Cape Cod, Mass., requesting that the center send members of its special Disentanglement Network to Atlantic City.

Laptop Computers For several hours, while waiting for the scientists to arrive from Massachusetts, the Coast Guard tracked and followed the whale, using an orange buoy it was trailing as a marker, Schoelkopf said. By the time the four scientists arrived at the scene - at about 4 p.m. - the whale, which was traveling at 4 to 5 knots, was approximately 22 miles off the coast of Atlantic City and in rough water.

laptop computers is driving strong sales for notebook computers, according to the latest quarterly sales figures from the research firm IDC, which reported a 37% computer sales for the second quarter, compared with a year earlier. In the U.S., laptop sales grew 17.7%, while sales of desktop computers and servers fell 4%. The New York Times ( 10), CNET ( 10)

Laptop Computer The crew approached the whale in an inflatable boat deployed from the Coast Guard Cutter IBIS and found that the fishing line - believed to be from lobster pots - originated in the whale's mouth and extended at least 250 feet behind it, according to a report issued by the Center for Coastal Studies. The scientists found that several of the whale's baleen plates were bent outside of its mouth, indicating that the entanglement was complex, the report says.

Desktop Computer The crew removed approximately 200 feet of the line to reduce the risk of further entanglement, but was unable to remove the line completely, as the seas were too rough for the scientists to get close enough to the whale to determine the exact attachment point, according to the report.

Notebooks The crew attached a signal-transmitting buoy to the remaining line, in order to track the whale's movement. According to the report, the crew plans to eventually attempt to remove the line completely once the exact nature of the entanglement is better known.

Lenovo According to a second report issued by the Center for Coastal Studies on Saturday, the whale was spotted by sport fisherman again Saturday and is believed to be heading south.

Hard Drive Schoelkopf said chances that the line would fall out of the whale's mouth naturally are slim at best.

Travelstar "Open your mouth and take a piece of line and then close your mouth," he said. "You can't spit it out because whales travel in a forward motion all the time and don't have hands to reach in. The only way is to back up, which whales rarely every do, or if it decomposes or gets caught on something and falls out on its own.

Gateway "The overall prognosis is hard to say," he continued. "I'm not sure if the animal can sufficiently recover or not. It's not one of those things you can really know for sure."
