Thinkpad It also draws Canada geese -- though usually only a few each year.
However, the total Rocky Mountain Population (RMP) of geese, which in addition to Utah includes southern Alberta, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and western Colorado, is up from last year. That's important if you hunt geese after Nov. 1. "Many of the geese we hunt after the first of November migrate into Utah from the north, " Aldrich says. "Based on how well the geese in the RMP are doing, I think we'll have a good goose season this year."
Microsoft Last year, however, a gaggle of 100 to 200 geese descended on the lake, fouling the water and forcing beach closings, residents said.
With a permit and in season, public hunting is allowed in the Marshall Creek area, west end of the lake. Waterfowl and small game hunting, as well as bow hunting of feral hogs and deer is permitted. Hunting licenses are obtained from the state of Texas and an additional permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers required. .
Laptop Computers Fearing a repeat this year, the Forest Lakes Club received a federal permit to shoot and kill 100 geese. The Byram Township council also has proposed allowing Forest Lakes to kill geese to eliminate a health threat.
McDowell continued, "Based on the language in Alternative F, the Division would likely need to issue State permits to document all taking of geese.
Laptop Computer No shots have been fired yet, but a furor has erupted as some residents and the Humane Society of the United States have strongly opposed plans to kill geese.

Desktop Computer Karl Hoffman, an opponent who lives in Andover at the entrance to Forest Lakes, said it's ironic that a bird sanctuary plans to kill birds. He has his own pond where a pair of geese that annually nest on an island have 10 offspring this summer.
Notebooks "We love all wildlife. That's one of the reasons we moved up here," said Hoffman, a former Bergen County resident.
Lenovo So do those who support a goose hunt, said Forest Lakes Club Chairman Jeff Vincent, adding that killing geese would only be a last resort. So far, it looks like it won't be necessary.
Hard Drive "We just wanted to be ready in case of an influx of hundreds. That's why we applied for the permit," Vincent said.
Travelstar Most residents never knew Forest Lakes was designated a bird sanctuary in 1974 until the debate arose several weeks ago, Vincent said.
Gateway In 1974, Forest Lakes, which had started developing in the late 1950s, was a growing community, though the isolated, tree-lined lake was still attractive to duck hunters, officials said. Residents did not want ducks or other birds to be hunted, so the council made it a bird sanctuary.
Laptop Parts However, the original ordinance also allowed the elimination of health or nuisance threats from excessive numbers of sparrows, starlings, pigeons or other birds. It did not mention Canada geese.
Software This spring, Forest Lakes received a federal permit to kill up to 10 geese a day, or a maximum of 100, subject to local ordinances, said Councilman Earl Riley.
Hard Drives The council considered scrapping the original ordinance, but decided to amend it by listing Canada geese as one of the species that could be controlled, Riley said. A public hearing will be held July 21, during a council meeting at 8 p.m. at town hall.
Electronics During the past few weeks, debate over the issue has heightened. Hoffman last month placed an ad in a local newspaper as Citizens for Humane Alternatives, alerting residents to the "meaningless slaughter" of geese. The Humane Society also sent mailers to members urging them to contact Vincent and town hall to oppose the plan.
Canon Hoffman claims the club has not aggressively pursued nonlethal ways to control geese, such as using repellents sprayed on the ground, dogs or noisemakers to scare them, or fencing along the water's edge to discourage the birds from wading ashore.
Desktop Pc Vincent counters that most nonlethal methods won't work due to the configuration of the lakeshore, which has a barrier of trees. Last year, the geese seemed to feed on farmfields in nearby towns and then hang out on the lake and its rocky islands, eventually making their way to one of four beaches, he said.
Desktop Computers "They don't come here to eat. They come here to poop in the sand," Vincent said. "It's like one big kitty litter."
Think Pad The situation was intolerable, as geese chased small children and raided picnic food, and one goose pecked a mole on an unsuspecting woman's shoulder. Docks and sand were thick with goose droppings and cleaning it up was a nightmare, he said.
Repair Worse, fecal coliform levels in the lake rose to unhealthy levels, Vincent said. Coliform levels below 200 organisms per milliliter are considered safe, and the lake had always been well below that figure. Last year, coliform levels spiked to 5,100 and 4,900 on beaches where the geese were, he said. This year with few geese, coliform levels have been way below the acceptable maximum, Vincent said.
Data Recovery Hoffman contends there was no proof the coliform was due to goose droppings, saying there were other possibilities for high levels, such as lower and warmer water caused by last year's drought.
Cisco Vincent said the connection to the geese was obvious. Forest Lakes prides itself on its clean water. There are no homes directly on the lake, and motorboats are not allowed, he said.
Keyboard "The last thing we want to do is do that (kill geese), but we can't go through what we went through last year, where the birds take over, make it an unhealthy lake and shut us down," Vincent said.
Monitor Resident Campbell Cairns agreed. "Nobody wants to kill them, but if we're going to close beaches and there are that many of one bird, it's a problem. It's kind of the same situation as the bears."
