In the fifth century B.C., Hippocrates recommended the
medicinal power of vinegar. A bit later, the Romans reportedly
dipped their bread into vinegar. But it took a long time for
vinegar to be recognized as an indispensable pantry item
and the soul mate of olive oil. laptop battery

Red and white wine vinegar:
Made from red or white wine, this vinegar is the
all-around hero of the kitchen. It has an assertive but not
harsh flavor. Use it for just about everything, including
salads, marinades, and sweet-and-sour dishes. Color is the
only determining factor. Red wine vinegar makes potato
salad look pretty yucky, so try white instead. microsoft

Cider vinegar:
Made from fermented apple juice, this vinegar is mild
and slightly sweet, making it suitable for salads but best
used in pickling. Some believe that apple cider vinegar has
health benefits. laptop computers

other Japanese and Chinese dishes, it can also make a light
vinaigrette for salads. Flavored rice wine vinegar is also

Creating Edible Food Containers
Adapted From: Gifts from the Kitchen For
Dummies Printer-ready version
Using edible containers to serve up food is eye-catching and
impressive. If you re creative with the containers or
packaging, guests are likely to appreciate that as much as the
contents themselves. Broccoli, cauliflower, pumpkins, and
gourds make exceptional containers for dips and more. hard drives
Broccoli
Broccoli makes a lovely container for dips. Choose a nice,
full head and cut the stem near the base to keep it from
tilting. Carve a hollow in the top of the head to insert a
small, clear, glass bowl. This bowl will keep the dip from
oozing through the stems. electronics
Cauliflower
Cauliflower is a great, dense vegetable that you can hollow
out and fill with a colorful dip. Cut the stem so that the
cauliflower sits level on the platter. Then carve a crater in
the top with a knife. If the cauliflower is dense enough and
there are no spaces between florets, spoon the dip directly
into the hollow. If the head is not solid, insert a small clear
glass bowl to hold the dip. Place the whole head on a platter
and surround with crudit s, such as carrots, peppers,
zucchini, and broccoli. Don t forget to use the florets you
remove from the cauliflower as additional crudit s. canon
Pumpkin
Think of this type of squash as more than a Halloween
decoration. A smaller pumpkin makes a great container for all
sorts of foods, including salsa. You can also use a bigger
pumpkin for a more dramatic presentation. Just carve off the
lid with a knife like a Halloween jack-o-lantern. You don t
have to remove all the strings and seeds, however. You can use
the pumpkin to hold a small amount of food by simply inserting
a small bowl in the opening. You can also use the bowl to keep
gifts like spiced nuts dry and away from the moisture of the
pumpkin s insides. The diminutive cousin of the pumpkin is
Jack Be Little. You can hollow out a few of these cute little
squashes to hold a variety of foods. Remove the strings and
seed so that you can spoon the salsa directly into the Jack Be
Little. desktop pc
Red cabbage
If you can find a red cabbage with the outer leaves still
attached, it can make a pretty display. As with some other
vegetables, you may have to carve out a hollow with a knife.
Then insert a clear glass bowl to hold the dip and to prevent
any leakage. A pretty alternative is the Savoy cabbage, which
is a crinkly version of the regular green cabbage. desktop computers
Talk to the produce department people in your supermarket
and ask them to save you a cabbage that hasn t had the
outer leaves removed. think pad
Squash
One of the most fascinating squashes around is the gooseneck
squash. It fully lives up to its name, with a long curving neck
and a bulbous base. Lay it on its side and cut out a cavity
with a knife in the thick bulbous base. Slice a section of the
roundest part of the bottom of the squash to keep it from
rolling. Pile it with a tasty treat, like marinated olives.
Depending on the size of the base, it may not hold a lot, but
the overall presence is decorative and impressive. Squash are
available during the late summer and fall. And, of course, some
old standbys are more readily available year-round, including
acorn and butternut. repair

Whether it s Valentine s Day or the anniversary of
your first date, here are ten simple ideas for expressing your
love . . . without taking out a bank loan! cisco
Baking heart-shaped food items
Preparing a heart-shaped anything is a romantic gesture.
Make heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast, heart-shaped crispy
rice treats for a snack, or a heart-shaped pizza for dinner.
You can also use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the crust
off sandwiches. How romantic heart-shaped PBJs for that
special someone! keyboard
You can bake a heart-shaped cake without any special pans.
Just make a cake recipe for a double-layered cake. Bake one
layer in an 8-inch round cake pan and the other layer in an
8-inch square cake pan. After the cake is cool, cut the round
layer into half-circles. On a large serving platter or cookie
sheet, place the two half-circles along two adjoining edges of
the square layer. Surprise a heart-shaped cake! Covered
in frosting, your loved one won t even realize the secret.
(We mean when the cake s covered in frosting, not your
sweetie, although that may be fun, too.) monitor
Making a 100 reasons why I love
you list
Does he always put the toilet seat down Does she remember
your birthday Does he wash the dishes regularly Does she
maintain the yard s appearance Anything and everything can
become an item on this list. Have some of the reasons be funny,
some just plain silly, and some sentimental and romantic. Just
make them all true! desktop
Reading love poems together at a local
bookstore
Browse a local bookstore that has a coffee shop, grab a
latte and a stack of books of love poetry, and read quietly to
each across a small, intimate table. Don t forget to play
footsie under the table, too! infosys
Sharing romantic greeting cards
Making cards for each other is simple and inexpensive. Use a
card-making program on your computer or draw your own cards on
scraps of paper. If drawing your own designs is beyond your
artistic abilities, glue on magazine clippings, pressed
flowers, dried leaves, photos, ticket stubs, or any other
meaningful or romantic items. refurbished laptops
Bringing chocolate
Even one single, elegantly wrapped, hand-dipped bonbon makes
a heart-felt gift and shows that you care. And besides, nobody
ever shot someone bearing chocolate. wipro
Leaving love notes in unexpected
places
Write I love you! in the fog on the bathroom
mirror while your sweetie s in the shower. Pack a love note
in his or her briefcase. Set one on the car seat while your
honey is at work. A note is a tangible way to remind your loved
one of your devotion. lap top
Sending a singing love-o-gram
You may want to hire a real singing telegram company to
serenade your dear one, but we re supposed to be talking
frugal tips, here. How about hiring a group of neighborhood
children to sing a love song to your sweetie Have the kids ring
the bell, hand Sweetie-Pie a note stating who the song is from,
and then let them belt out the song. On-key or off, the song is
a touching expression of your love. refurbished
Make a scroll-of-love
Use either a receipt roll from an office supply store or a
paper roll from an adding machine. Start at the loose end of
the roll and then write down romantic quotes, loving thoughts,
or any number of favorite feelings you want to share with your
loved one. Take your time. You can make your writings an
ongoing project while you watch television or keep it by your
computer so you can jot down ideas while you re browsing
online (just make sure you work on it when your honey isn t
around). When you finish, wrap each end of the scroll around a
dowel cut to size, and then, when you give it as a gift, plan
on reading through it together. Don t forget to bring a box
of tissue if your honey s a sop for the emotional
stuff. memory
Get sentimental at a wedding
Next time you re invited to a wedding, hold hands with
your honey through the entire ceremony. Every time something
sweet, moving, or romantic is said during the ceremony, squeeze
your loved one s hand meaningfully. Try to catch your
sweetie s eye and smile shyly at appropriately mushy times,
too. intel
Say I love you!
The most frugal way of all to say I love you! is
just to say the words. Some people think their love goes
without saying, but you need to express your love in as many
tangible ways as possible through looks, small
attentions, personal nuances, but especially through the actual
words. Say it. Say it every day for the rest of your life. You
won t regret it. as400

French cooking is one of the world s most revered, yet

The average person in France has a hectic lifestyle and
faces the same dilemma that most people do at the end of each
day: what to make for dinner. The difference in France is that,
in general, people don t view food and cooking as necessary

AD/HD For Dummies
Approaching AD/HD with Acupuncture
Adapted From: AD/HD For Dummies Printer-ready
version
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese system (several thousand
years old) of balancing the flow of subtle energies through the
body. In the last 30 years or so, the practice has been studied
quite extensively and has grown in popularity in the Western
world. In fact, according to the Food and Drug Administration,
people in the United States made 12 million office visits for
acupuncture in 1993. Acupuncture is used to support general
health, but some people use it to reduce some of the symptoms
of AD/HD, as well as many of the co-occurring conditions such
as anxiety and depression. computer hardware
Getting some background
Acupuncture is part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine
(TCM) system, along with herbs, meditation, and a host of other
techniques. Acupuncture (and the rest of TCM) is based on the
concept that all parts of the body and mind are interconnected
every part influences the function of every other
part. printers
The belief is that the various parts of your mind and body
are connected by a vital energy called Qi (which is
pronounced, and often spelled, Chi in the West). This
Qi flows through the body, and any disruptions in this flow
affect your health, resulting in illness. The goal of
acupuncture is to keep this flow going smoothly, which keeps
you healthy; or, if you re already sick, acupuncture frees
the blockages that are causing your illness. technology
The Qi flows through channels called meridians,
which connect your internal organs with the surface. In TCM,
there are 12 primary meridians relating to each of your organ
systems and 8 secondary meridians, for a total of 20 meridians.
Acupuncture involves placing needles on certain localized
points in the skin to direct the flow of Qi through each of
these meridians. mainframe
Many theories are available on how this system works, but
two stand out: samsung
Regardless of the mechanism involved in acupuncture, its
longevity alone suggests that it must help some people. network
Exploring the process
As many as 2, 000 acupuncture points exist, and an
acupuncturist must figure out which point(s) to stimulate in
order to offer you any benefit. Doing so involves a diagnostic
process that usually includes the following: digital cameras
-
A check of your pulse:
Again, according to TCM, your pulse tells your provider
a lot about your state of health. Unlike in Western
medicine, an acupuncturist is interested in more than just
the speed of your pulse; she looks for the strength and
rhythm of it as well. hosting
When the intake exam is complete, you re asked to lie
down while your provider puts needles in different parts of
your body. These needles don t hurt if they re placed
in properly. They are very small, and they go only a little way
into your skin. netfinity
If you feel any significant amount of pain from the needles,
they aren t put in properly, and you may want to look
around for a different acupuncturist. The most you should feel
is a slight pricking sensation when the needle is inserted. internet
After the needles are in, you remain relatively still for up
to 30 minutes, at which point the needles are removed and
you re free to go. cheap computer
Knowing what to expect
Your results from acupuncture are going to depend on your
condition. Even though you have AD/HD, your acupuncturist may
focus on other areas. Remember that the goal of acupuncture is
to correct any disruptions in the flow of Qi in your body, so
you should receive a very individualized treatment. digital camera
Generally speaking, it takes several sessions before you can
expect to see any significant changes in your symptoms. Side
effects, if any, are minimal. Most often, your acupuncturist is
able to give you a clear idea after your initial examination as
to the number of sessions you need (and their cost) and whether
you ll need to return later for tune-ups. printer
Finding a provider
Many acupuncturists are in practice these days, but finding
one who has experience working with people with AD/HD may be
hard. As with any healthcare professional, your best bet is to
get a referral from a family member, a friend, or another
healthcare provider. If you can t find any referrals, start
with your local phone book or check the bulletin board of your
local natural foods market. If all else fails, do an Internet
search for an acupuncturist in your area. Check the following
Web sites, which also have quite a bit of information about
acupuncture and TCM: xseries

AD/HD For Dummies
Improving Your Life When You Have
AD/HD
Adapted From: AD/HD For Dummies Printer-ready
version
Having AD/HD presents many challenges, especially when you
interact with people who don t have the condition. Here are
some of the more important issues that people with AD/HD have
when they live with people who don t have it. data storage
Managing moods
One of the main characteristics of AD/HD for most people is
extreme, frequent changes in mood. One minute you may feel
happy and hopeful, and a minute later you feel angry and
frustrated without anything outside of you causing the change.
This phenomenon is a product of several different factors, the
most important of which are: hitachi
-
Past experiences:
Most people with AD/HD have come up short on meeting
their (and others ) expectations, so they tend to have
an internal dialogue that is demeaning and negative. That
tendency to have a low opinion of oneself can be formed,
worsened, or reinforced by . . . websphere
-
A tendency to jump to conclusions:
People with AD/HD have a talent for jumping to
conclusions ahead of the evidence. After you ve jumped
to a conclusion, an attitude isn t far behind. If you
have an attitude about every conclusion you jump to,
you re probably going to come across as moody. it support
-
Medication wearing off:
If you take medication for your AD/HD, as it wears off
you may experience changes in mood. If you notice a mood
pattern that seems to coincide with your medication
schedule, talk to your physician about adjusting your
medication, dosage, or schedule. western digital
Here are some suggestions to deal with negative thoughts
that can lead to negative moods: music
-
Breathe through it.
When you have negative thoughts, your body tenses up,
and your breath becomes shallower. Take a few deep breaths,
and you ll begin to relax. toner
-
Reframe that thought.
Even if you think a negative thought is based
on what s really happening, you don t have to let
it lead you to a negative feeling. Try to reframe negative
perceptions, thoughts, or words into positive ones. If you
can see the humor or the benefit in a difficult situation,
you can probably feel better about it. wholesale
-
Don t take things personally.
All of us have internal pressures, reasons, or ideas
that make us do the things we do. When someone directs a
negative comment or action your way, try to realize that
it s not necessarily about you. If you can do so, you
may not feel the need to have such a strong reaction. Work
on understanding the causes and consequences of your own
and other people s actions and reactions. If you
succeed, you may be able to let us all off the hooks of
blame, resentment, and general bad temper. brother
Extreme moodiness may be a sign of depression or bipolar
disorder. Because both of these conditions are common among
people with AD/HD, have a professional screen you for these
conditions. netvista
Taking responsibility
We ve said this before and we ll say it again: AD/HD
is an explanation, not an excuse. You must take responsibility
for your actions regardless of the fact that AD/HD has a
biological cause. If your behavior is causing problems in your
life, you need to seek the best possible help in getting it
under control. camera
If you hurt someone, create a problem, or make situations
more difficult even unintentionally don t
use your diagnosis of AD/HD as an excuse. You and everyone else
will benefit if you can focus on understanding how your actions
caused the hurt or contributed to the problem. If you can find
a way to express that understanding to the other people
involved, all the better; they can then realize that you have
not ignored their feelings and rights. networking
The most important thing you can do is to learn from
situations in which your AD/HD plays a part in creating bad
feelings or less-than-optimal outcomes. That way, you can take
responsibility and continue on the road to
self-improvement. sharp

Exploring Current AD/HD Research
Adapted From: AD/HD For Dummies Printer-ready
version
Although the exact cause of AD/HD is still unknown, there is
no shortage of research into the biology of AD/HD. This
research fits into four broad categories: genetic, anatomical,
functional, and chemical. cheap
Genetic
AD/HD runs in families so much so that when
diagnosing the condition, an AD/HD professional s first
step may be to look at the person s family to see if anyone
else has it. The precise genetic factor has yet to be
confirmed, but recent research has identified a couple of genes
that may contribute to AD/HD. windows
Many studies have examined AD/HD from a genetic perspective.
These include studies that look at adoptive versus biological
parents, the prevalence of AD/HD in families, twins
tendency to share AD/HD, and specific genes associated with
AD/HD. Here s a short sampling of some of these areas of
investigation: monitors
-
A study conducted by Dr. Florence Levy of the University
of New South Wales, Australia showed that if one identical
twin has AD/HD, 81 percent of the time the other one will
as well. By contrast, only 29 percent of paternal twins
share AD/HD. Because identical twins share the exact same
DNA, this strongly suggests a genetic component to
AD/HD. linux
