Lenovo Mayor Bloomberg's effort, rushed and audacious as it is, did not venture into examining how to manage garbage for the long term, including ways to reduce solid waste generated by New Yorkers not just in households but in businesses. It is a big start, however. And it's refreshing to see a mayor demonstrate a commitment to try to clean up the mess without adding to it.
