Thinkpad State officials in September blocked an effort by the Citgo Oil Co. to donate the 392-acre Delaware River island to the Natural Lands Trust as open space. The island was used until last year as an oil storage depot, and was also home to a pair of nesting bald eagles.

Microsoft The vote to reject Citgo's gift came a day after South Jersey Democratic boss George E. Norcross III faxed a memo advocating private development of the island to Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bradley M. Campbell.

Desktop Computer "It's pretty clear what caused him (Campbell) to pull back," Schundler said. "When (Norcross) spoke out against this deal, it appears to me Corzine and Codey and every other Democratic leader said, 'Yes, sir!'"
Notebooks Norcross has business ties to the developer, Cherokee Partnership Ltd. of North Carolina, as chief executive of the insurance division of Commerce Bancorp.
Lenovo Cherokee has proposed building a $1 billion golf course, hotel and marina complex on the island between Camden and Philadelphia. It has donated more than $500,000 to state and county Democratic organizations in the past four years.

Travelstar Democrats pointed out that neither Corzine, who has announced his candidacy for governor, nor Codey, who is considering it, had any direct links to the September decision. The decision on Petty's Island was made by appointees of former Gov. James E. McGreevey and took place seven weeks before Codey assumed office.
Gateway "Mr. Schundler can save his accusations for the campaign trail," said Sean Darcy, a Codey spokesman. "Petty's Island is an issue that needs to be worked out between local officials and the DEP."
Laptop Parts Schundler promised to keep hammering away at the issue because it's a perfect example of the reforms needed in New Jersey and because preserving the island as open space is "the right thing to do." He also privately conceded that opposing development on Petty's Island could draw moderate Republican environmentalists to his conservative candidacy.
Software "It's a sign of how screwed up New Jersey is that Bret Schundler is an environmentalist and we're working with an oil company to preserve open space," Jeffrey Tittel, executive director of the Sierra Club, said after listening to Schundler's news conference.
