Rick Gaffney There is a classic photograph of Dr. Charles Frederick Holder posing with a 183-pound bluefin tuna he caught on rod and reel on June 1, 1898, off the coast of Southern California. It was a catch so impressive for its time that the Associated Press telegraphed news of the feat around the world.
Laptop Battery That catch is also said to have inspired Holder to suggest the founding of The Tuna Club, at Avalon on Santa Catalina Island. This year, The Tuna Club celebrates its 100th anniversary, making it the oldest game-fishing club in the world.

Microsoft In June 1998, 100 years after the founding of The Tuna Club, members and friends again dressed formally to participate in The Tuna Club Centennial, "celebrating a century of angling history." The sold-out gala event, held in the Avalon Ballroom not far from The Tuna Club's historic building, drew game-fishing luminaries from near and far. Many of them were surely sweating in their black ties, but it was nonetheless fitting that the formality of the club's founders was emulated by those in attendance at the celebration.
