Bear-Hunt Movie Spoof Not Far From The Truth

Laptop Battery They were filming a scene for a movie Thursday in Parsippany about a group of bear hunt protesters who go a little too far. The plot is supposed to be a farcical romp following six women who witness the shooting of a bear cub. They capture a group of hunters and try to change their behavior.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Microsoft Vicki Farentinos and Eben Baume, who live in Sparta, said they got the idea for this self-financed movie from listening to the debate over the New Jersey bear hunt last year. They say they are against the hunt and don't eat red meat, but they don't believe in taking away hunter's rights. They are not making a training film for protesters.

laptop computers is driving strong sales for notebook computers, according to the latest quarterly sales figures from the research firm IDC, which reported a 37% computer sales for the second quarter, compared with a year earlier. In the U.S., laptop sales grew 17.7%, while sales of desktop computers and servers fell 4%. The New York Times ( 10), CNET ( 10)

Laptop Computer The thing is, when it comes to the bear hunt and the emotions that subject generates, fiction is not far from truth. Bear hunt protesters talked last year about going into the woods to stand with the bears, to protect them, and some have portrayed hunters as evil killers in cahoots with developers trying to take land that rightfully belongs to bears.

"Computer industry analysts estimate that some 60 percent of all corporate data exists only on desktop and laptop computers, " said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. "Incorporating Acronis True Image with New Mexico Software backup server is the ideal solution to capture that corporate data and ensure that it is not lost. While traditional server backups are effective for protecting server data, every company should have a combination of server and workstation backup plans."

Desktop Computer Some hunters refer to animal rights groups as wackos, saying they are part of a blue-state conspiracy to deprive them of the right to hunt and even to take away their right to own guns. They say the conspiracy includes any attempt to control the bear population that doesn't involve guns.

Notebooks "We try to distance ourselves from any groups," Ferentinos said.

Lenovo While her movie is a comedy, it also comes close to identifying one of the biggest problems when it comes to discussions about the bear hunt. Neither side listens to the other. Both sides resort to name calling. No one is willing to compromise.

Hard Drive A bear hunt scheduled for this week was called off when the state Supreme Court last week overturned an appellate court decision. The appellate court ruled that the state's Fish and Game Council, dominated by hunters, has sole authority over the state's came code. The Supreme Court ruled that Bradley Campbell, commissioner of the state Department of Environmental Protection, has the authority to stop the hunt because the state does not have a comprehensive bear management plan.

Travelstar The judges added that Campbell has the authority to veto any management plan that the council might want to implement and even referred to the council as having only an advisory capacity.

Gateway Hunters responded by saying the ruling seems to open the way for Campbell or some other state officials to stop any hunt. They pointed out that the state has a squirrel hunting season -- and no plan to manage squirrels. Campbell said last week that while the court cited the need for a management plan for bears, it was deemed necessary only because of the dispute over a bear hunt.

Laptop Parts And, so far, no one has stepped forward to defend squirrels.

Software The debate over the bear hunt will continue into next year. Campbell wants regulations added to the state's administrative code to clarify his authority over the council, allowing him to stop hunts under certain circumstances. Some legislators, including state Sen. Bob Littell, R-Sussex, have proposed legislation that they say would re-establish the council's autonomy.

Hard Drives Not many people are talking any more about another kind of proposal -- retaining the council's autonomy so its decisions aren't influenced by politicians, and opening its membership to include more environmentalists and biologists so that wildlife management is about more than hunting. Such a proposal would not end hunting in New Jersey. It would make it tougher to get some recreational hunts approved when they aren't necessary to manage wildlife.

Electronics Campbell suggested last year that something along those lines might be a good idea. After the Supreme Court decision last week, he said he saw no reason to change the council's composition. Why should he? He had the power he wanted. A DEP spokeswoman said this week that nothing really has changed except that the council is no longer autonomous.

Canon Which means everything has changed.

Desktop Pc Now, state officials seem to hold all the power, unless the Legislature steps in and trumps the Supreme Court. So the Fish and Game Council will continue to schedule bear hunts and state officials will approve them or veto them. Will they base those decisions on opinion polls or science? There has been a debate over the number of bears in the state. Campbell says there are about 1,600 while the council, based on state agency estimates, have said there are twice that many.

Desktop Computers The way the system is now set up, we may never get an estimate that's not simply designed to support one view or another. Maybe an expanded, autonomous council would come up with a better estimate -- but it is not on many people's agenda right now.

Think Pad The power struggle may be played out in the state Legislature. Hunters have something in common with Campbell. Both sides want to have the final say. In some cases, that amounts to having the only say that matters.

Repair In Farentinos' and Baume's movie, six women -- a yoga instructor, a mother of two, a divorced real estate agent, a veterinarian who believes she is a pet psychic, a secretary and a former corrections officer -- pick up guns and go out into the woods. They wear camouflage. They set up an electrified fence. They take prisoners at gunpoint. They try to get the hunters to eat healthier, animal-friendly meals.

Data Recovery That is not such a big step from reality, because some people on both sides of this issue sometimes come off as caricatures.

Cisco Some hunters talk about the loss of the bear hunt as a constitutional issue, as if it puts us on the slippery slope toward totalitarianism. They say the government has no right to intrude on their right to hunt. They also have not been keen on expanding the Fish and Game Council to include more nonhunters because they have not wanted to give up their complete control over hunting. For some reason, they do not see that giving up some control would be better than losing all of it.
