Laptop Battery New Jersey won a battle in its pollution war with neighboring states Thursday, negotiating a deal with a Pennsylvania power plant to clean up and eventually shut down two coal-fired burners blamed for spewing high levels of acid-rain-causing emissions across the border.
According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.
Thinkpad The deal calls for PPL Corp. to begin using cleaner-burning coal and oil in its four generators next year at the Martins Creek power plant in Northampton County, across the Delaware River from Warren County.

Laptop Computers In exchange, New Jersey agrees to drop its challenge to the company's plan to open a new 600-megawatt natural-gas-fired plant on adjacent property.
fired plant in Shelocta, Pa. The plant, owned by Exelon and PSEG, is so old that the owners are not required to comply with the federal New Source Review. In 2002, the plant had the third highest levels of sulfur dioxide emissions in the country. Largely because of dirty coal plants like this one, New Jersey suffers from some of the highest levels of soot and smog in the nation.
Laptop Computer "It's a major victory for New Jersey," Governor McGreevey said in a telephone interview. "This is the first time a state has successfully negotiated the shutdown of a coal-fired plant outside of its jurisdiction."

Desktop Computer New Jersey had appealed Pennsylvania's approval of PPL's gas-fired plant, slated to open early next year.
Notebooks The company disagreed with New Jersey's findings about how much pollution was emitted from the coal-fired burners, but decided not to wait for an independent review board in Pennsylvania to hear the appeal, a spokesman said.
Lenovo "This allows us to move forward," said John Seif, PPL's vice president of corporate services.
Hard Drive New Jersey officials estimate this plant emitted more sulfur dioxide than all six of New Jersey's coal-fired power generators combined. Sulfur dioxide emissions cause acid rain, which damages streams, lakes, forests, and farmland.
Travelstar Jeff Tittel, executive director of the New Jersey chapter of the Sierra Club, called the Martins Creek power plant the biggest polluter of the air over the Highlands, the forested ridges of northwest New Jersey that stretch to the edge of Bergen County and are a major source of water for the region's reservoirs.
Gateway Phasing out the two generators will lead to a 70 percent reduction of that plant's emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, which contributes to higher ozone levels.
Laptop Parts Environmentalists cheered the fact that the power plant is not only shutting down the two burners but also permanently giving up the allowances - called pollution credits - it gets from the federal government to emit those levels of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide.
Software "That will mean less pollution in the air overall, said Frank O'Donnell, executive director of the Washington-based Clean Air Trust.
Hard Drives O'Donnell said it is rare for two states feuding over downwind air pollution to resolve their differences without a timely and expensive legal battle.
Electronics New Jersey is in the midst of several lawsuits against out-of-state power plants, and officials say this agreement could be used as a model for settling those disputes.
Canon "Folks in New Jersey should be pretty happy with this agreement because it sounds like it was done without any of the usual blood, sweat, and tears," O'Donnell said.
