Desktop Computer The bear, a 2-year-old female weighing between 150 and 200 pounds, was discovered up a tree in a North Jersey backyard 11 days ago, less than 24 hours after the final shots rang out on the state's first bear hunt in 33 years.

Canon Metler -- who lives in Vernon, the heart of New Jersey bear country -- refused to identify the woman or the location of the bear, "because we are afraid the state will take the bear away and kill her."
