Lucent Technologies to Deploy Juniper Networks T-Series Routers for Next-Generation JANET Network

Lucent to supply routers for the 10 Gigabit per second backbone network for UKERNA, the publicly funded organisation responsible for the operation and development of the UKs research and education network, JANET

MAY 23, 2006 -- LONDON - Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) and Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that the companies have been selected by UKERNA (the U.K. Education and Research Networking Association) to provide the routing equipment for a 10 gigabit per second (Gbps) network, known as JANET, to support a wide range of broadband services for universities and education establishments in the U.K. Under the five-year framework contract between Lucent and UKERNA, Lucent will deploy and maintain the network routers, which will be based on core routing infrastructure from Lucents global partner Juniper Networks. keyboard
For the project, Lucent will supply UKERNA with Juniper Networks T-series core IP (Internet Protocol) routing platforms designed to support broadband services nationwide, with points of presence in London, Bristol, Reading, Warrington, Glasgow, and Leeds. At the core of the network will be the Juniper Networks T640 Routing Node.

2. check your current network. All the computers on your network should be talking to each other, and you must have at least one free slot on your router to plug in the new server. At least one of the computers on your network must be ready, willing, and able to run the Windows Home Server connection software. Any Windows XP or Vista machine will suffice. 3. • Your computers are in an internal network behind a NAT based router. Only the router has a public IP address. You can access your internal network computers via the Internet. To do this you need to configure 'Forwarding' firewall. Configure the router to forward connections from a port on the router to a specific IP address and port (Radmin server's default port is 4899) of the target computer in your internal network. You need to assign a port on the router for every computer you need to access. The router will then forward the connection to your computer in the internal network.
  • Your PCs have real IP addresses but the firewall has its port 4899 closed. In this case you have to open 4899 or use another open port.
  • Radmin Server does not start on the server. Examine the log file on the server for the reason.

We chose Lucent for this project because it was able to meet our need for a field-proven, highly reliable solution, and also demonstrated the lowest overall total cost of ownership for the lifetime of the contract, said Jeremy Sharp of UKERNA. We are looking forward to working with Lucent and its partners on the deployment of this next-generation platform.

Home wireless routers allow you to connect your home computers together into a network. If you want to use your router as a firewall also, in firewall. Otherwise, you can purchase a firewall separately. Wireless network routers will allow you to connect computers, notebook computers, PDAs and printers without wires. They are also useful for connecting laptops to the Internet and other networks, such as at work or at home.
