Sierra Club Salutes NJ's Green Congressional Delegation

Washington DC - As the House and Senate rush to wrap up legislative work before Thanksgiving, the Sierra Club salutes the members of the New Jersey Congressional delegation for once again distinguished themselves as champions of environmental protection.

Protecting the Highlands: The House passed by voice vote HR 1964, legislation sponsored by Representative Frelinghuysen to authorize $100 million over 10 years for land conservation partnership projects and open space purchases in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut. "The Sierra Club's NJ Chapter played a key role in securing the cosponsorship of every NJ Representative," said Dennis Schvejda, Chapter Conservation Director. "Getting this bill passed in the House wasn't easy. First our NJ Democrats had to work to avoid a Democratic hold in the Resources Committee, and then Rep. Frelinghuysen and Rep. Saxton had to work on the Republicans. It was a bi-partisan team effort," added Schvejda. Rep. Garrett was a key supporter, and Rep. Pascrell joined Frelinghuysen on the House floor to speak on behalf of communities that get their drinking water from Highlands streams and reservoirs. "What's significant is that Congress recognized for the first time that the Highlands are just as important as Alaska or the Rocky Mountains," said Jeff Tittel, Chapter Director.

"Computer industry analysts estimate that some 60 percent of all corporate data exists only on desktop and laptop computers, " said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. "Incorporating Acronis True Image with New Mexico Software backup server is the ideal solution to capture that corporate data and ensure that it is not lost. While traditional server backups are effective for protecting server data, every company should have a combination of server and workstation backup plans."

Microsoft Saying NO to a flawed Energy Bill: The House of Representatives passed the Energy Bill, HR 6, by an overwhelming vote of 246-180. 10 New Jersey Representatives voted FOR the environment and against the bill: Andrews, Holt, LoBiondo, Menendez, Pallone, Pascrell, Payne, Rothman, Saxton and Smith. 3 voted AGAINST the environment and in favor of the bill: Ferguson, Frelinghuysen and Garrett. "What I find most gratifying are the votes of LoBiondo, Saxton and Smith. They have consistently voted against the Energy Bill, and they didn't fold under Presidential and Congressional Leadership pressure," said Dennis Schvejda. "Unfortunately, just as consistent in their anti-environmental votes were Ferguson, Frelinghuysen and Garrett. They have voted FOR the Energy Bill at every opportunity," continued Schvejda.

Laptop Computers While Republicans predictably removed two particularly outrageous provisions from this bill (drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and exploring America's coasts for oil and gas), it still leaves the public with more air and water pollution, greater oil dependence and an outdated electricity grid.

And then, of course, we have the Standalone Server product, which is called Acronis True Image Server for Windows or Linux and that will manage a single standalone server. What type of computers can we back up, because in a medium to a large sized, even some small sized businesses, who knows what kind of computers they have They may have laptops, they may have desktops, they may just have anything and everything

Laptop Computer The bill is now stalled in the Senate, where Senators Corzine and Lautenberg voted to support a filibuster.

Desktop Computer Protecting America's Forests: The House of Representatives passed the so-called "Healthy Forests and Restoration Act of 2003," HR 1904, 286-140, and the Senate followed suit on a voice vote.

Notebooks Overall, this Administration's "Healthy Forests Initiative" is nothing more than a thinly veiled plan to increase logging in national forests. "This bill provides a false sense of security for the American people. Congress has let politics and scare tactics drive a wildfire policy that only serves the needs of the oil, gas and timber industry while ignoring the needs of communities," said Dennis Schvejda. "I'm proud to say that the NJ delegation wasn't fooled, every Rep. BUT Frelinghuysen & Garrett voted against HR 1904. Nationwide, ONLY 9 Republicans voted against the bill, and 4 - Ferguson, LoBiondo, Saxton and Smith - are from NJ," added Schvejda.

Lenovo "If any consolation may be found in the Bush administration's unprecedented attack on environmental protections, it is that the NJ delegation has refused to surrender their principles. I would encourage constituents to contact their Representatives, and express their appreciation," concluded Dennis Schvejda.
