API Releases New Software, Acquires Additional Contracts

Laptop Battery By Kristin V. Johnson • 02/25/04 Healthcare organizations can increase their productivity and be more responsive to the needs of their employees and thus improve the quality of the care they provide as a result of two new products from API Software, a Hartford, Wis.-based software company. API Software announced Tuesday the availability of the companys wireless Employee Information Station (EIS) and its ActiveStaffer scheduling application, which recently acquired two new contracts.

The EIS is an interactive tool that provides employees with easy access to their labor-related information. Employees can use the EIS not only to clock in, but in place of a departmental computer in many instances. Since the EIS is integrated with time and attendance, staffing and scheduling and human resources applications, employees can easily review their personnel information, such as time cards, work schedules and benefit information. In addition, the EIS automatically communicates work assignments to float employees when they badge in at the healthcare facility for the day.

The EIS is Microsoft Windows CE-based and has a 10.4-inch touch-screen display to communicate messages to employees as they badge in. The product provides proximity, magnetic-stripe and bar-code-reading technologies for badge in, and will soon include options for biometric and interactive voice recognition capabilities.

In addition to EIS availability, APIs ActiveStaffer staffing and scheduling application is designed to make scheduling employees faster and fairer. The product acquired two new contracts Tuesday: Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md. and Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. have agreed to purchase the ActiveStaffer software. The program automates manual processes involved in scheduling employees is designed to reduce the time burden on managers and schedulers, ensure employees are being treated equitability and prove quantitatively that patient care standards are being met.

ActiveStaffer is designed to schedule employees fairly and equitably. These benefits can equate to improved recruitment and retention efforts.
