Thinkpad West Nile virus is a mosquito-borne disease which can cause encephalitis. Mosquitoes acquire it from infected birds but it can strike humans as well. Last year, 25 New Jerseyans tested positive for the virus, roughly double the number from the year before.

Laptop Computer Rehabilitating birds such as the horned owl has become a passion for Steinbeiser, whose nonprofit Redbud Avian Rehabilitation Center offers intensive care to wildlife from his home on Manitee Avenue.

Desktop Computer Early last September, an East Windsor-Plainsboro Animal Control officer discovered the ailing owl on the ground on Meadowbrook Road, Steinbeiser said.
Notebooks Stressed, sick, malnourished and dehydrated, the grounded owl was taken to Steinbeiser because the Mercer County Wildlife Center was closed at the time and the bird needed immediate attention. West Nile virus was not diagnosed at first, Steinbeiser said, but it was obvious the owl was in serious trouble.
Lenovo Great horned owls normally weigh 1,500 grams, Steinbeiser said, but this particular bird tipped the scales at a measly 900 grams.

Test results revealed the owl had West Nile virus, which is known to have infected nearly 800 crows and other birds last year in New Jersey. The owl remained at Redbud for monitoring and convalescence.

Software Now healthy, the great horned owl has been banded for monitoring and is ready for takeoff. Before his release, Steinbeiser wanted to let the mating season pass. That eliminates the stress of fighting for territory, he said.
Hard Drives Steinbeiser has been involved with wildlife rehabilitation since 1988, working as a volunteer at The Ark in Newtown, Pa., and the Mercer County Wildlife Center. In 1994, he opened his own clinic with a caseload of 12 birds. His load bulged to 392 birds in 2002, not to mention stray cats, squirrels and other wildlife.
Electronics Steinbeiser said he hopes someday soon to get help, and added space is always in demand.
Canon "I've been doing it by myself and I just can't do it anymore," he said. Still, he's remodeling his garage into a wildlife clinic and is eager to accept volunteers.

Mosquito control officials say it's impossible to predict how many will become infected with the disease this year. Two state residents died last year and the elderly were particularly vulnerable to the disease.
