Online Retailers Holiday Sales Up 30 Percent

But sales of pet supplies, cosmetics and fragrances will increase faster than other categories at growth rates of over 30 percent, the report found. Last year, online sales rose 25 percent to $176.4 billion, with 28 percent growth in online purchases excluding travel. Total Internet sales in 2004 and 2003 reached $141.4 billion and $114.1 billion, respectively, Silverman said. Microsoft Fresh off the "Cyber Monday" rush, online retailers are reaping the benefits of aggressive, early promotions, according to the results of the 2005 Shop.org/BizRate Research eHoliday Mood Study, conducted by BizRate Research, a division of Shopzilla, Inc.

According to the indictment, Jones would steal various IBM and Penguin computer servers from Verisign's warehouse in Virginia and sell them to Johnson. Johnson would then sell the servers to several individuals, who would sometimes place them for sale on eBay. As a result of this scheme, the indictment alleges that Jones and Johnson caused Verisign to lose more than $120, 000 worth of computer equipment. In the indictment, Jones and Johnson are charged in three counts with causing the interstate transportation of stolen property, namely IBM 330 and 335 servers, in violation of 18 U.S.C.

Laptop Computers Shopzilla said that58.0 percent of online retailers are reporting year-over-year holiday sales increases of 30.0 percent or higher. The percent of online retailers feeling "very optimistic" following Cyber Monday and the Thanksgiving weekend increased to 31.0 percent compared to 24.0 percent when they were first surveyed in late September. Seventy-six percent of online retailers are feeling "very optimistic" or "somewhat optimistic" about the holiday season.

But like Ms. Rubin, Mr. Cassar said the early online shopping surge should not be taken as an indication that the holiday season will necessarily exceed earlier sales forecasts. Jupiter is sticking by its previous forecast of $13.1 billion in online holiday sales this year, a 17 percent rise from last year. That would be slower growth than in the 2001 holiday season, when online sales were 29 percent higher than those a year earlier, according to Jupiter.

Laptop Computer According to Shopzilla, retailers are using a variety of marketing, promotions and site tools to drive holiday sales. The most popular marketing initiatives have been direct e-mail promotions (92.4%), paid search engine marketing (71.4%), natural search engine marketing (53.3%) and affiliate/loyalty programs (40.1%). Free shipping with conditions reigns as the most successful promotion in retailers' arsenal with 62.0 percent of retailers citing it as being most successful in driving holiday sales. As for the best site tools, retailers are having the most success with gift idea centers (52.0%), suggested items (39.0%) and featured sale item pages (32.0%).

* With traditional retailers investing more in eCommerce, Germany will generate 3.8 billion in online holiday sales increasing its share of European online sales to 29%, up from 27% last year. France will increase online holiday sales to 1.1 billion, a 9% share, and Spain will double its share compared with last year, to 4%. In the Netherlands online holiday sales is set to reach 584 million. As the largest revenue generator in online retail, travel will still bring in the most online holiday sales, with 21% of the total till. Apparel, with 17% of total online holiday sales, will take second place.

Desktop Computer The marketing and promotional initiatives are having the desired effect on Internet bargain hunters. Almost a third (30.3%) of consumers surveyed reported that they started their online holiday shopping earlier than last year.

Notebooks "Following a strong Thanksgiving weekend and Cyber Monday, the 2005 online holiday season is off to a great start," said Scott Silverman, Executive Director of Shop.org. "Effective marketing vehicles, desirable promotions and site features that help shoppers find the best gift seem to be the right combination for another great holiday for online retailers."

Lenovo Beyond promotions, the top reason why shoppers chose to shop online was avoiding crowds (73.4%). Convenience (66.6%), avoiding lines (59.0%), ease of finding items (51.6%), price comparisons (51.1%), and product comparisons (44.5%) are the other big draws for consumers.

Hard Drive Online shoppers are responding well to retailers' continued efforts to improve the online shopping experience. This year, 96.2 percent of consumers were satisfied with their online holiday purchases through Thanksgiving weekend, compared to 95.0 percent in 2004.

Travelstar "Retailers understand that last minute shopping is just part of the holiday shopping ritual," said Chuck Davis, Chairman of Shopzilla "Multi-channel retailers are making sure consumers are able to shop as late as possible, from work or home, day or night, whenever or wherever they want to shop without the annoying crowds."

Gateway Shopzilla offered some suggestions to shoppers to ensure that their online purchases would be shipped on time for the holidays. Most Retailers' Standard Shipping Deadlines are December 15 or 16. Consumers seeking to ensure gift delivery by Christmas should place their orders at most online retailers by December 15 or 16. One-fourth of retailers will guarantee Christmas delivery using standard shipping for orders placed by December 16. One-third of retailers will guarantee Christmas delivery for orders placed by December 15 or earlier.
